Mitch's Week 2 College Football Picks Part 1
Before they had more ads than a NASCAR and made it so covering a Wide Receiver was a penalty, I was a big fan of the NFL.
While I still watch more than just a game or two, I don’t care as much about it. One of the golden rules in the NFL is to always beware of the home dog on a Monday night. I guess after last night the same could be said in the college game.
I’ll be honest, I was a little skeptical in my pick yesterday and kept it to one unit, maybe I should have made Fresno my pick of the day instead of the Vols but we’re not going to harp on it too much. Overall for the week we were a more than solid 15-8 and +11 1/2 units, I’ll take it.
This week’s games are pretty interesting and once agin we’ll be breaking them out over a few days. While we’re not talking a lot of the marquee match ups, we’re talking some big point spreads, let’s take a look at a few of them.
Wisconsin -20.5 Vs. Marshall (Saturday 9/6/08, 12pm) 2 Units
I’m back on the Badgers and back with 2 units. Gotta love The Big Ten Network; how else would we have known that the Wisky-Akron game we lost last week wasn’t really much of a game?
The Badgers had a few defensive lapses that cost us the cover (Akron scored a “garbage TD in the final minute to cover) but actually probably makes this spread as low as it is. I know it’s tough to call 20 1/2 low but Wisconsin showed they were three deep at running back and absolutely mean business.
I’m sure coach Brett Bielema will explain in practice what happens when you give up bad scores and my guess is we don’t see it again. I’ll also throw in that Marshall is 1-6 against the spread in it’s last seven non-conference games and Wisky is 11-4 vs. the number in their last 15 out of conference.
