Mitch's Week 2 College Football Picks Part 1

Mitch WilsonSep 1, 2008

Before they had more ads than a NASCAR and made it so covering a Wide Receiver was a penalty, I was a big fan of the NFL.

While I still watch more than just a game or two, I donโ€™t care as much about it. One of the golden rules in the NFL is to always beware of the home dog on a Monday night. I guess after last night the same could be said in the college game.

Iโ€™ll be honest, I was a little skeptical in my pick yesterday and kept it to one unit, maybe I should have made Fresno my pick of the day instead of the Vols but weโ€™re not going to harp on it too much. Overall for the week we were a more than solid 15-8 and +11 1/2 units, Iโ€™ll take it.

This weekโ€™s games are pretty interesting and once agin weโ€™ll be breaking them out over a few days. While weโ€™re not talking a lot of the marquee match ups, weโ€™re talking some big point spreads, letโ€™s take a look at a few of them.

Wisconsin -20.5 Vs. Marshall (Saturday 9/6/08, 12pm) 2 Units

Iโ€™m back on the Badgers and back with 2 units. Gotta love The Big Ten Network; how else would we have known that the Wisky-Akron game we lost last week wasnโ€™t really much of a game?

The Badgers had a few defensive lapses that cost us the cover (Akron scored a โ€œgarbage TD in the final minute to cover) but actually probably makes this spread as low as it is. I know itโ€™s tough to call 20 1/2 low but Wisconsin showed they were three deep at running back and absolutely mean business.

Iโ€™m sure coach Brett Bielema will explain in practice what happens when you give up bad scores and my guess is we donโ€™t see it again. Iโ€™ll also throw in that Marshall is 1-6 against the spread in itโ€™s last seven non-conference games and Wisky is 11-4 vs. the number in their last 15 out of conference.
