Fantasy Football Week 13 Waiver Wire: Players To Cut from Your Fantasy Team

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballDec 1, 2010

With the end of the fantasy football season approaching, it’s important to have your roster in the best shape possible, and that means getting rid of the dead weight. So with that in mind we bring to you a list of players you should consider dumping from your fantasy football team.

Carson Palmer (Cincinnati Bengals)

It is finally time to cut Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer. We held out hope he could turn things around, but now that he has three straight multiple-interception games, it’s become clear that neither Palmer nor the Bengals are going to turn things around.

Palmer may be worth holding onto in deeper leagues, just because even with the turnovers, his touchdowns are still enough to warrant consideration. However, in standard leagues there are better, more-consistent options out there.

Besides, look at Palmer’s upcoming matchups and you’ll see there is not one favorable game left on the schedule. In order, Cincinnati plays the New Orleans Saints, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Cleveland Browns, the San Diego Chargers and the Baltimore Ravens.

Ryan Mathews (San Diego Chargers)

San Diego Chargers running back Ryan Mathews is not a good a fantasy option for a number of reasons. Mike Tolbert is doing the scoring on the ground, Mathews had trouble holding onto the ball and has been dealing with some minor nagging injuries.

That said, perhaps the biggest thing has been how prolific the passing game has been with quarterback Philip Rivers, who leads the league in touchdown passes. Mathews has only had double-digit carries in three games, hasn’t had one 100-yard game and is averaging just 47.8 yards per game.

He has a bright future ahead of him, but for now is not a good fantasy option and you shouldn't be wasting roster space on the rookie.

Jabar Gaffney (Denver Broncos)

In a Week 3 loss to the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos receiver Jabar Gaffney caught 12 passes for 140 yards, and since then, he’s done pretty much nothing.

Gaffney has two touchdowns on the season, but just one in the last 10 games. He’s not caught more than four passes in a game since Week 6 and has caught three or less passes in each of the last three games.

His production has been on a steady decline ever since that Colts game, and there’s no indication that he’s going to magically turn things around at this point. Dump Gaffney now instead of hanging onto a receiver that has limited upside.

Aaron Hernandez (New England Patriots)

For somebody who never did much in the first place, it’s interesting to see that New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is still owned in almost 75 percent of standard leagues.

In the last two weeks he’s caught just two passes, and he’s got just two double-digit fantasy performances all season.

The thing with the Patriots is that they are very unpredictable with how they use their tight ends, so you never know if Hernandez is in line for a big day or a bad one. However, recently the team has been throwing more to Rob Gronkowski.

Given that Hernandez was never really that productive and he is no longer catching that many passes, he should be cut immediately.
