Fantasy Football Week 13: 20 Start 'Em, Sit 'Em Locks To Win Your Matchup
If you play fantasy football long enough you run into these tough choices.
What happens when you've got a talented team, but your players could be in potentially risky matchups? Everyone knows this weekend's best games are between New England and the New York Jets and Pittsburgh playing at Baltimore. Are players in those games worth playing, or sitting?
There are some tough decisions to make this week, and others that are pretty simple.
Dwayne Bowe? You'd better keep him in.
Tom Brady? May not be so smart to play him against the Jets. You'll see why.
If you have any other matchups that have you confused, fire them over. I'll try to help. But here are a list of ones to sit, and others to start:
20. Start: WR Ben Obomanu, Seattle
1 of 20
He was the NFL's second-best receiver last week, finishing with five catches for 159 yards and a touchdown against Kansas City. Now Seattle turns around to face a Carolina team that is allowing over 205 yards passing per game.
19. Sit: New England Defense
2 of 20
The Patriots' defense is near the bottom of the league, allowing nearly 400 total yards per game. Mark Sanchez is going to get his numbers, and already faired well in their first meeting, finishing with 220 yards passing and three touchdowns.
18. Start: RB Jonathan Stewart, Carolina
3 of 20
He returned with 98 yards rushing last week, and should continue to gain more confidence. Now he'll face a Seattle defense that surrendered 270 yards rushing to the Chiefs in last week's 42-24 loss. The Seahawks are allowing over 120 yards rushing per game and have given up 11 rushing touchdowns.
17. Sit: QB Sam Bradford, St. Louis
4 of 20
Yes, you'll be tempted to go with him after he put up career numbers, but he's facing an Arizona team that is playing for pride and trying to salvage something from this season. The Cardinals already defeated St. Louis in their season opener.
16. Start: WR Desean Jackson, Philadelphia
5 of 20
He's brushed off the altercation between him and coach Andy Reid following last week's loss to Chicago. It's always worth the risk to go with a talented player who has something to prove. Plus Philly is facing Houston.
Go for it.
15. Sit: WR Santonio Holmes, NY Jets
6 of 20
He's played the hero and been a favorite target for Mark Sanchez, but you know New England coach Bill Belichick will make sure to do everything to contain him.
14. Start: RB Adrian Peterson, Minnesota
7 of 20
He's still one of the NFL's best, and will now face a Buffalo defense that is allowing a league-worst 167 yards rushing per game.
13. Sit: Dallas Defense
8 of 20
They were gashed by Drew Brees last week, and now comes a road game at Indianapolis. Peyton Manning has been struggling, throwing seven interceptions in his last two games, but he should just continue what Brees did.
12. Start: RB Jamaal Charles, Kansas City
9 of 20
He rushed for 173 yards and a touchdown last week, and is second in the league with 1,021 yards on the season. Denver contained him in their last meeting, but Charles still was a viable receiving option, with five catches for 80 yards and a touchdown.
11. Sit: RB Peyton Hillis, Cleveland
10 of 20
He continues to progress and had a big week against Carolina, but it may not be smart to play him against a Miami defense that's allowed 104 yards rushing per game and surrendered just six rushing touchdowns on the season.
10. Start: Chicago Defense
11 of 20
1. The Bears are playing Detroit.
2. The Lions gave up 447 total yards to New England in their 45-24 loss on Thanksgiving.
Do we need to go any further?
9. Sit: RB Ray Rice, Baltimore
12 of 20
Sure he could also be used as a receiving option for Joe Flacco, but this is one of the NFL's most brutal rivalries. And Pittsburgh is fifth in the NFL in total defense.
Not worth the gamble.
8. Start: QB Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay
13 of 20
Always pull the trigger when you have a talented quarterback facing a really bad team. In this case, it's the 49ers.
7. Sit: RB LeGarrette Blount, Tampa Bay
14 of 20
The rookie has had a great season, but this is against a superb Atlanta team, and it's a high-pressure game. If the Falcons could hold Ray Rice to just 59 yards rushing, do you really think Blount will do better?
6. Start: QB Michael Vick, Philadelphia
15 of 20
The Texans are allowing 286 yards passing per game. This is a pretty simple decision. Pull the trigger, and go score some big-time points tomorrow night.
5. Sit: RB Rashard Mendenhall, Pittsburgh
16 of 20
Just like with Ray Rice, you don't need to risk this. If it was at Pittsburgh, perhaps, but Baltimore has yet to lose at home this season.
4. Start: WR Dwayne Bowe, Kansas City
17 of 20
At the rate he's going, ride him all the way and don't blink an eye. Always go with someone who's in the zone like Bowe is.
3. Sit: QB Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh
18 of 20
Big Ben was spotted with a boot on his foot at practice, but is expected to play against Baltimore. But there's just too big a chance of Baltimore getting interceptions and Roethlisberger getting yards, but no touchdowns.
2. Start: QB Drew Brees, New Orleans
19 of 20
The Saints are headed to Cincinnati. Another easy chance to get big-time points.
1. Sit: QB Tom Brady, New England
20 of 20
You really could argue both sides here, but how much you want to bet Rex Ryan makes sure his defense pounds away at him and tries to make him rush his throws?
Don't take the chance. It's just not worth it.
