Tampa Bay Buccaneers Coach Raheem Morris Cuts The TD Culprit—Sabby Piscitelli

Tom EdringtonNov 30, 2010

On Sunday after a 17-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and again on Monday, Buccaneers coach Raheem Morris refused to identify the culprit responsible for the broken coverage that left Ravens tight end Todd Heap wide open.

Heap hauled in a pass from Joe Flacco and rumbled 65 yards for and easy touchdown and there was no one near him.

On Tuesday Morris identified the culprit. Actually, he did more than identify him, he cut him.

Sabby Piscitelli, the maligned strong safety who lost his starting job to rookie Cody Grimm, was released by Tampa Bay. Piscitelli was forced into action when Grimm suffered a broken fibula in the second quarter.  Grimm was placed on Injured Reserve by the Bucs on Tuesday along with defensive end Kyle Moore and guard Davin Joseph, who suffered a broken bone in his foot early in the game Sunday.

The Bucs moved safety Vince Anderson to the active roster along with wide receiver Dez Briscoe and guard Brandon Carter. They also signed safety Larry Asante from the Cleveland Browns practice squad.

After replays of Heap's touchdown, it was apparent to most observers that Piscitelli was way out of position on the play, allowing for the easy score that would prove the difference maker in the loss.

With the Atlanta Falcons and quarterback extraordinaire Matt "Matty Ice" Ryan coming to town on Sunday, it was apparent that Morris had run out of patience with Piscitelli, who one local blog had nicknamed "Sabby The Goat."

Morris has pondered the possibility of moving corner Ronde Barber to the safety position and possibly bringing E.J. Biggers into Barber's corner position.

Whatever Morris decides, he'll have his hands full trying to game-plan against Ryan and his receivers and unless he moves Barber to the safety position, he'll have a relatively inexperienced player at strong safety.
