San Francisco 49ers: Frank Gore's Season Done, Brian Westbrook Is the Hot Pickup
San Francisco 49ers starting running back Frank Gore will be out for the remainder of the with a broken right hip. Gore suffered the hip injury during a 27-6 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday night.
Gore was injured on the 49ers' opening drive of the game and was than taken to the locker room. Gore was able to return on the next offensive possession but was done after just one carry. This is a huge blow for fantasy owners of Frank Gore because the playoffs are right around the corner.
Backups Brian Westbrook and Anthony Dixon will likely split carries for the rest of the season, but with Westbrook's performance on Monday night, he will probably be the starter. Westbrook carried the ball 23 times for 136 yards and touchdown during the 49ers' win. Westbrook has not been a great fantasy back this year but he will be a popular pickup after Gore's injury.

Gore had 801 yards on the year with just three touchdowns and was somewhat of a disappointment for fantasy owners. Westbrook may be a gift that falls into the lap of Gore owners if he runs the way he did on Monday night.
The 49ers ran for over 200 yards during their win and this is good news because it clearly shows that they are a run-first offense. Whether you are a Frank Gore owner or not, get your claims in for Brian Westbrook.
