TUF the Ultimate Fighter Season 12 Semifinals: And Then There Were Four

S.Nov 29, 2010

This season of TUF has been great, full of entertaining fights packed with hilarious moments. It had everything from a fighter who admits he is crazy to another who has either seen Berry Gordy's "The Last Dragon" way too many times or, frankly, not enough.

The contrast in characters made for entertaining segments, but what was really entertaining at times was the contrast of head coaches George St. Pierre and Josh Koscheck.

GSP, a humble, soft spoken warrior versus the almost stereotypical cliché jock. Think one of the villains from Revenge of the Nerds. I love watching this guy. As obnoxious as he can be, I must say he has to be one of the most entertaining characters in TUF history. Even if you hate him, he's still got your attention.

He got GSP's attention many times with his juvenile antics and poor sportsmanship. Sure, you could say Koscheck is doing this to distract St. Pierre from their fight and the task at hand, but in his pursuit to irritate GSP, did he himself get distracted? He spent so much time bothering GSP that all of his guys lost except for Nam.

Nam Phan, one of the four semifinalists (only surviving Team Koscheck Member), is the only Team Koscheck fighter winning his fights. Why? He hasn't gotten caught up in Team Koscheck's current. Each team had an odd guy out. Nam was humble and hard working when it came to prepare for the fight.

He really belonged on Team GSP just as their odd guy, Bruce Leroy, belonged on Team Koscheck's with his childish antics. The drama and fights have been great and now only four remain.

Jonathan Brookins, the guy many believe will win The Ultimate Fighter, will face off against Kyle Watson in the semifinal. Brookins is young, talented and has been unstoppable on TUF. Deemed, "The Silent Warrior," Brookins has gone unnoticed until he began to fight. The quiet guy who meditates before fights became a favorite as he dismantled his opponents with amazing ground game. Brookins is my pick for this semifinal match.

Nam Phan faces Michael Johnson in the other semifinal match. The odds for this one are on Team GSP's No. 1 pick, Michael Johnson. Johnson is a powerful striker with decent ground game. The much smaller Nam Phan is an excellent striker and a black belt in jiu-jitsu who can't be counted out. To most he might look like any kid off a college campus but don't let his appearance fool you.

Like Clark Kent, when he takes off his glasses he becomes an entirely different person who is capable of great upsets. Like knocking out the creator of the McKenzitine, Cody McKenzie. A stroll through YouTube will show fight videos from Strikeforce to K -1 and now he is in the UFC.

It's obvious he has a lot experience and throughout his career he has had some good advice. Out of all the cast members he has the biggest tool box. That is why I'm going with Nam.
