Strikeforce's Antwain Britt's First WISE Seminar a Success in Confidence

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (November 11, 2010) – Women’s Initiative for Strength and Empowerment (WISE), a non-profit women’s self-defense organization founded by Strikeforce Light-Heavyweight Antwain “The Juggernaut” Britt, held its first ever self-defense and empowerment seminar on Saturday, October 30, 2010.

The event took place with dozens in attendance at the Hybrid Training Center in Virginia Beach, Va. Antwain Britt and his fiancée, Jiu-Jitsu Champion Adrienne Adams, lead the class. Britt and Adams demonstrated critical self-defense techniques focused on choke holds, grabs, holds, shoving, defense from a bottom position, and delivery of proper hand and knee strikes. All techniques were developed from Britt’s A-Squared Training Systems combatives program and were modified so any person could effectively employ them.

Women in attendance reported on average a high to very high confidence in the techniques, as well as a moderate to significant increase in their personal confidence. On average, most women reported having little to moderate personal confidence prior to the seminar, while nearly all reported having high to very high confidence after the seminar. Women who reported having very little confidence prior to the seminar reported increases in their confidence ranging from moderate to high.

WISE was founded with the purpose of preventing abuse against women from the threat of domestic violence, and emotional, physical, and sexual assault. Utilizing self-defense training, situational awareness training, and confidence building exercises, WISE enables participants to defend themselves, or their loved ones, in threatening situations.

“I am very excited about the direction that the WISE foundation is going. The success of our first seminar has given us a great gauge and positive feedback that we can build off of in growing WISE,” says Britt.

Wanting to take WISE in a direction that helps as many people as possible, Britt looks “forward to innovative fundraising and creative programs that will put WISE in a position to empower women for years to come.”
