MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING!!!
I must be very real and point that, a lot of the people who make comments these days and hold analysis positions at t.v stations and sports websites around the better part of Europe made a hollabaloo about the Gunners bleep at Craven Cottage, and did so in haste. If anything, this summer has witnessed a rash of transfers, and ones that have helped a whole lot of lesser clubss bolster their teams. Even players who last term might have rejected moves to these clubs, willingly made the train, bus, cab and okay, the more obvious plane rides to places usually referred to as, "smaller clubs." The losses incurred by Real Madrid, A.C Milan, Barcelona, Manchester United, and the draws forced on Liverpool, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Roma, Juventus and a host of other big clubs across Europe this past weekend is a pointer to what can happen to a club when they underestimates their opponent. Nowadays, the work of "smaller club" managers cannot be taken for granted. Let's take the Chelsea vs Tottenham game as an example. I marveled at the thought of what the headlines read, after the Blues over hyped machinery seemed so slow and unfocused against an overpaid, underachieving Tottenham squad. With Barca losing against Numunci too, club that was just promoted it just goes to show how wrong those people are who favor a system of huge investment in stars rather than in substance. To make matters worse, the team that got bashed the most last week actually played some amazing football. Manchester United battled through the better part of their game against a quality Newcastle side, only to come up with a draw at Old Trafford. I am not concluding that huge investment in star players is unnecessary, I am just putting it into the light that the focus of the football world should be on who played better, the decisions of the referee, and the effort put in by all the men chasing that round leather ball across all the stadia!
