Houston vs. Tennessee: Suspensions for Ugly Fight Between Johnson and Finnegan?

The Houston Texans hosted the Tennessee Titans, and the big news was that the Titans would be without quarterback Vince Young for this game. The latest NFL odds listed for this game had the Texans as big six-point favorites before kickoff, but a different story would dominate this game.

Fireworks could have been expected, as both teams have a history of fighting and general dislike for one another. However, no one could have expected it would be as ugly as it turned out.

Video is circulating on the web of the fight between Andre Johnson and Cortland Finnegan.

The Houston Texans manipulated the Titans all game long, and even though the game was well in hand, there was still some serious trash-talking on the field. Titans cornerback Finnegan is well known throughout the league for his trash talking, and on Sunday it proved too much for Texans wide receiver Johnson to take.

The pushing, shoving and talking had built up throughout the game, and it came to an ugly end late in the game.

It was in the fourth quarter when Finnegan hit Johnson in the mouth at the line of scrimmage. Johnson responded by ripping off Finnegan’s helmet and throwing him to the ground. Johnson’s helmet came off in the melee, but he clearly landed at least two punches to Finnegan’s head after removing his helmet.

Both players were ejected, and suspensions are sure to follow.

The commissioner will have his hands full, as both players will undoubtedly face fines and possible suspensions. The question is, how long will they be out for, and how much money will they be fined?

It would seem as though Andre Johnson will get the longer suspension, as he got the better of Finnegan in the fight. But with Finnegan’s history on the field, it will be up to the commissioner.
