Daily Market Trends: The Sharps are in the Water

Dan FabrizioAug 31, 2008

Moving Today's Market

A busy afternoon of baseball gives players many options for action. A couple of very interesting line moves have caught our eye, and they've also triggered Smart Money plays. The first sees one of Tampa's aces take the mound against Baltimore. James Shields (11-8, 3.75 ERA) gets the ball for the Rays against Brian Burres (7-8, 5.79) and the Orioles. Tampa opened as -245 favorites at Pinnacle, and they're receiving 75% of moneyline wagers. The line has since moved to the Rays -220, indicating some sharp players backing Baltimore. Another similar line move has occurred in the Minnesota-Oakland match up. Scott Baker (7-4, 3.75) takes the mound for the Twins, and he's being backed by 81% of moneyline bettors against Oakland's Greg Smith (6-13, 3.90). The Twins opened at -159 with Pinnacle, but are currently sitting at -134. That makes two games with moneyline swings of 25 points against the public betting percentages. The sharps are getting an early start this Sunday.
