Juan Cena? Que, WWE? Thoughts On This Idea and The WWE's Infirmity

nirreJ streboRNov 24, 2010

"LordsofPain.net" was quoted as saying, "- As noted before, "Juan Cena" is being advertised for upcoming RAW events. Juan is being billed as John Cena's Mexican cousin."

Now, I'm all for humor in wrestling, but this is just...what?! I mean, I know Cena's last name means "dinner" in spanish, but this is ridiculous. As I read this, a scenario jumped into my head:

Juan Cena "debuts" (He'll probably be wearing a luchador mask.). > Barrett sees this and tries to reveal Juan as John, only to be foiled by some technicality or sporadic inconvenience. > They feud for a little while > The RAW GM re-hires Cena. > Cena takes his mask off and AA's Barrett.

An alternate scenario I had was that Juan would really be Darren Young in a luchador mask. No, I'm kidding.

In my opinion, this indicates weakness for WWE. To me, it seems as if they can't really work around Cena's absence, so they attempt to sell this weak storyline to its demographic of children, knowing that it would be acceptable to the majority of its fans.

Those fans would eagerly enjoy the return of Cena (actually thinking he was fired) and the ensuing humor following this wacky, tacky storyline.  The main focus of the WWE has centered around Cena and Orton for a while, now, when really it should be focused on our new WWE Champion, The Miz and fresher talent.

We've seen other talent just, simply put, virtually ignored because they were overshadowed by Cena and Orton.

This tells me that the WWE is wholly dependent of its fan favorites: They think that considering he's the current company draw and fan favorite, his absence would most likely be a liability (financially).

While that may be true, that problem can be easily solved by pushing neglected talent.

This storyline appeals to the majority of the WWE universe, but not the minority. The WWE felt as if they needed Cena, so working this storyline is compensation for not having him here.

The truth is, it's not compensation, it's a false sense of security. John Cena was said to take an hiatus for however long, so this appearance may just be for one night only.

What problems will the WWE face once Cena actually leaves (for his vacation)? Orton may not be an option, he's probably going to be out on an injury angle.

With them "gone," we can only hope for a Wade/Miz altercation and Smackdown may end up becoming the dominant brand between the two. So, all I know is there has to be some other way they work around this, instead of using this storyline.

Not only is this just a weakness, but this marks uncreativity from the WWE creative team. We've already had Owen Hart's "Blue Blazer", Hulk Hogan's "Mr. America", and The Miz's "Calgary Kid" from when he was banned from the arena.

I'm not sure if The Miz's situation counts, though. They dug this idea up from the WWE landfill, and now their giving it back to us.

Thank you for reading.
