Miami Hurricanes romp 52-7 in first game at new home

Even with a number of players suspended, including starting quarterback Robert Marve, the Miami Hurricanes had no trouble in manhandling its much weaker opponent and beat the Charleston Southern Buccaneers 52-7 in its home debut at Dolphins Stadium.

Jacory Harris started for Marve and threw for 190 yards going 16 for 26 and throwing one touchdown. Harris also showed off his running skills and ran 3 times for 22 yards including a 30 yard run that gave the 'Canes its first touchdown early in the 1st quarter.

The Buccaneers weren't expected to give that much of a game against the Hurricanes, even with Miami coming off its worst season in years at 5-7, but Miami started its blowout early and didn't let down. By the end of the 1st quarter, they were already up 21-0.

The Hurricanes put up another touchdown in the 2nd quarter on a Greg Cooper 14 yard run that put it to 28-0 going into halftime. The Hurricanes came out with something to prove against its weak counterpart and scored two more touchdowns in the 2nd, including a 66 yard punt return by Cooper.

The running game proved to be the most effective for the Hurricanes as they managed to rack up 224 yards of rushing all together with 7 different players. Javaris James finished with the most with 73 yards and 1 touchdown, 5 of the touchdowns themslves came from the running game.

The defense also played superb, only 126 yards in total were allowed the entire game to the Bucs as they had to struggle to score their only points midway through the 3rd quarter.

An average turnout came to the Hurricanes new home, as only half of Dolphins stadium was filled. Due to the terrible condition of the Orange Bowl, the Miami Hurricanes moved there home football games to Dolphins stadium, which is already home to two other professional teams.

The Miami Hurricanes will face a much tougher test next week when they travel to Gainesville where they face the #5 Florida Gators who just came off a 56-10 win over Hawaii. The Hurricanes in the past have proved to be dominant over the Gators, but times have changed and time has favored the Gators.
