Manchester United: 5 Relative Factors That Can Win The League For Red Devils

Maxx GNov 24, 2010

Patrice Evra and Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez scored the winners for Manchester United in their last game against Wigan Athletic while Luis Nani was again phenomenal in his performance. It seems like that things are going fine for the Red Devils now. Stablised and steady, they can now go on and win the league.

But United is not playing alone here, and there are tough competitions ahead also. Specially, the surprise elements like West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland and Newcastle United can cause upsets to any team.

Here, I have portrayed 5 most relative factors thereby, which can determine United's run in the League title race. These are relative since they depend on the performance of the others, the competitors.

And they also depend on United's performance too. They have to be sound in their strategies and keep winning games.

So, it's your curse and my glory today.

Chelsea Loses Again: And Falls Back

As a Red Devil supporter, you may feel that the rivals are most preferably Arsenal or Liverpool, but the hardest competition is Chelsea at the moment. Chelsea, being managed by Carlo Ancelotti, won the league last season and is definitely one of the strongest favorites this season.

Why I say favorites? They were just the strongest to win the EPL. They started the season with utmost domination and it looked as if they are unbeatable and a league winner is already waiting in the cards.

Come to current scenario, Carlo's Chelsea lurks like a wounded beast, the bullet holes being made in names of John Terry and Frank Lampard.  While the two pillars of the team are out, Chelsea looks a lot weaker, like a average team. Has the giant lost its weapons?

Well, Chelsea still has one of the strongest weapons in name of Didier Drogba, who represents the deadly class of poachers. But unfortunately, Drogba seems to be highly out of form and is putting in a series of consistent below average performances for Chelsea. Is Drogba wishing to leave Chelsea for a return to his old home Marseille?

Now, as long as Chelsea puts in a series of bad performances like it did with Birmingham City and Sunderland, it remains a clear route for Manchester United to go and win the league.

Arsenal: Arsene Wenger's Cry Does Not Reach Out

Arsene Wenger's army were playing good this far. Of course, there were some upsets. But still, they were playing better than the last season.

Another thing that added to their asset is the big improvement of Samir Nasri in the midfield. With the captain Cesc Fabregas out for injury in the initial weeks, Nasri pulled in a big role for the Gunners.

However, things did not start to go well recently for the Gunners. They received a stupid defeat from their rivals Tottenham Hotspur after being ahead in the game with a 2-0 scoreline.

Captain Fabregas still looks out of his last season form, and Robin Van Persie continues to remain a burden to his team, with his ever lasting injury problems.

Arsene Wenger was sad with his boys after the defeat to Spurs in their home front, but then he asked his army to pull up their socks and said that they will be back with wins. He reported that his team is more enthusiastic now and will be back and then they lost yesterday in the Champions League match against S.C. Braga.

Now, another big blow comes for Wenger when his super captain is out from the game for weeks after an injury in the last match.

Well, bad for the Gunners, but good for the Red Devils right?

Manchester City: Rich Dad Has Only One Exceptional Son Unfortunately

As the caption goes, the cash rich Manchester City has brought many players with big amounts but at the end of the day, it is only Carlos Tevez who can make a difference at the City.

David Silva may score a goal or Yaya Toure may play well in midfield, but all that is still highly inconsistent and irregular performances from those players. Carlos Tevez continues to remain as the strongest link in the team and if he fails some day, the team gets stagnated too.

Oh, you will now say of the Super Mario Balotelli, but let him get over the love for red cards first. Balotelli is definitely good, but again he is aggressive in his nature causing troubles on field and also highly injury prone.

Coming to injuries, how many city defenders are still on the fit list?

Manchester City is a big name now and a big thing to watch surely, but their inconsistency and over dependence on Carlos Tevez is a concern for them.

Also, Tevez played in the match against Manchester United, but scored nothing and got a yellow card in the end.

So, thhis inconsistency and over dependence can be a boon to the Red Devils, and also the other EPL teams.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool: Some Way Behind

Well, these are the two teams that can reach the competition apart from the surprise elements.

Tottenham is playing well, with Gareth Bale and Rafael Van Der Vaart playing superbly in their own roles. Undoubtedly, Van Der Vaart is their magic gift for this season. However, Spurs still needs to run a lot to reach the level of winning the league. Yes, they can come 3rd or 4th, but to come at the top they need to put in more and more consistent winning runs.

Liverpool, is a team on the other hand, with a brand new ownership, an average team, a rich club history and an incapable Roy Hodgson. Frankly, Roy is not the man Liverpool needed to win. His ultra defensive strategies and buying of poor talents like Christian Poulsen speaks of his team's loss in most of the games.

With captain Steven Gerrard out of the team now, the Reds will have a tough time to bite in, their only hope being the arrival of new talents in the winter transfer window. But again, will Hodgson buy the right one?

Presently, these two teams, speak of no competition to the Red Devils.

Chicharito Is a Super Sub: The Strategy Works Well

Javier Hernandez has been a beautiful buy by Sir Alex Ferguson. And he has his effect more when being in the game as a super sub after the half time. He is fast, and opportunistic and will improve more with time.

United must set up strategies like this, and play rotational roles with Dimitar Berbatov and Javier Hernandez. Wayne Rooney is back to field, and given a little time, we hope he will again be the strong point in the team.

The plays from Park Ji-Sung and Gabriel Obertan and also nice at times and United must play Park and Obertan more often, until we find an adequate cover for injured Antonio Valencia.

And yes, the honorary mention in the right back role should be Rafael da Silva who should be playing more for United. the talented Brazilian is a wonder in bombing from the flanks when he gets the ball.

Strategies set. No more injuries. A hopeful transfer season ahead. Now it is a way to go. Way to the League title.
