Tampa Bay Buccaneers And Some Victory Leftovers

Tom EdringtonNov 22, 2010

You gotta admit, that one tasted pretty good on Sunday.

While you sit back and perhaps think some good thoughts prior to what awaits on Bucs on Sunday, these leftovers from the 21-0 victory over the 49ers:

Gerald McCoy's first sack of the season was actually two half-sacks combined. He got a half sack in the first quarter, then another in the fourth. The defense had only eight sacks in their first nine games, then six on Sunday. Nice.

The NFC West is no doubt the worst division in the NFL.

The last time the Bucs won in San Francisco, Jimmy Carter was president.

The last time the Niners were shut out at home was 1977, and this humble scribe was covering Florida State football for the Tampa Tribune.

If Troy Smith is the best option for the 49ers, how bad a draft bust is Alex Smith?

It was a year ago that Raheem Morris made himself the Buccaneers defensive coordinator. The team is 9-7 since he took over the position.

You gotta love when they send Josh Johnson in to run the wildcat. Anyone out there have a good nickname for the Buccaneer Wildcat?

Anyone notice how well Adam Hayward and Dekoda Watson have played since getting their chance?

Sure looks like Connor Barth is a long way from being "Mr. Reliable." He's now 3-for-7 on attempts longer than 39 yards, and that has to be disturbing. Put "place kicker" down on next year's wish-list.

With two more TD passes on Sunday, Josh Freeman has thrown for 14 with only two picks. Superb!

Ronde Barber now has 40 interceptions and 26 career sacks. Hall of Famer? Kurt Warner thinks so. Barber's the only player in NFL history with those numbers.

Anyone notice when LeGarrette Blount de-cleated a 49er while he was running through the line in the first quarter? He's a beastly-beast.

Kudos to Morris and Mark Dominik and the team captains for not rushing to judgement on Mike Williams. "We're not sitting a player for speeding," Dominik said. And as of now, it appears that's what Williams did. If his urine test is negative, this incident will go away. The team captains have said they'll handle Williams themselves.

Anyone else think Mike Singletary looked a little confused at times on the 'Frisco sideline Sunday?

How about Donald Penn's fingertip catch on the day's final touchdown? Does he have a bonus clause in his contract?

Anyone notice that Jeremy Zuttah was back at left guard for most of the game? Ted Larsen started but they had Zuttah in there quickly after sitting him out last week.

And finally this gem from Mike Singletary on Blount:

"I thought he was what I thought he was coming out of college....."

You sure about that, Mike?
