BCS Championship: Wisconsin, Not Boise or TCU, Should Go if Oregon/Auburn Falter

Carl StineNov 20, 2010

With a 48-28 victory over the Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor, No. 7 Wisconsin managed to remain atop the Big Ten standings.

But the Badgers deserve more than a trip to the Rose Bowl if one of the top two teams falters down the stretch.

No. 3 TCU and #4 Boise State are both currently ranked ahead of the Badgers.

But, quite frankly, the fact that Boise and TCU are ranked ahead of the Badgers is just ludicrous.

Yes, BSU and TCU are undefeated, I understand that.

I also understand that they are not responsible for their weak conferences.

And I even get that teams from the 'better' conferences have refused to take on BSU and TCU at times.

The Badgers, however, have staked their claim to being the best one-loss team in the country, and they certainly deserve to slip into the championship game ahead of either BSU or TCU.

While everyone cries 'foul,' let's compare the teams and justify this statement.

Wisconsin is currently 10-1, No. 7 in the BCS rankings and coming off of a 48-28 win over the Wolverines.

No. 4 Boise State is currently 10-0 and beat down Fresno State in Boise 51-0.

No. 3 TCU is 11-0, and are idle this week.

The first issue with the Badgers being ranked behind both of these teams is this:

UW has beaten two of the current BCS top 15 teams, and three teams in the top 25. Their sole loss comes to the BCS No. 12 team, Michigan State, on the road.

As the BCS rankings stand, right now, neither BSU or TCU has beaten a current top 15 team.

BSU beat No. 16 Virginia Tech early in the season, and TCU handled No. 23 Utah.

They haven't beaten top of the line competition.

It's that simple.

It doesn't matter that they have done all that they could, it's still not good enough.

It doesn't matter that they are undefeated.

They have beaten nobody.

While Wisconsin went through a four game gamut of MSU, Minnesota, Ohio State and Iowa, TCU took on Colorado State, Wyoming, BYU and Air Force. And during the same four-week period, BSU played New Mexico State, Toledo, San Jose State and Louisiana Tech.

Please explain how these are even close to being similar schedules.

While the Badgers are averaging over 40 points a game against Big Ten competition, the other two have been repeatedly feasting on cupcakes.

Someone better warn them too much sugar can cause diabetes.

And while BSU and TCU have been overdosing on their diet of cupcakes, Wisconsin has been winning, and winning big.

After beating Purdue 38-10, the Badgers dropped 83 on Indiana and then went to the Big House and won by 20.

The Badgers took out a top ten team in Ohio State.

TCU did as well, defeating Utah.

The difference? Ohio State continued to win and has only the one blemish on their record.

Utah, after aspiring to the National Championship game, has fallen to No. 23 after losing to unranked, absolutely atrocious Notre Dame.

So TCU's biggest win is a paper tiger, what about BSU?

Boise handled Virginia Tech in the first game of the season.

The Hokies promptly turned around and lost to James Madison.

So BSU moved on to their next best win, against Oregon State, who is currently not ranked, and 5-5 overall.

Enough...

Stop giving credit where none has been earned and give credit where it's due.
