New York Rangers Rumors: Could the Rangers Be After Marc-Andre Bergeron?

Nick PerriNov 22, 2010

I'm sure you have already heard the recent rumors regarding the Rangers and Brad Richards, Mike Ribero and Jarome Iginla. If you have not, here they are:

Brad Richards and Mike Ribero

Sunday afternoon, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reported that the Rangers are interested in Dallas Stars centers Brad Richards and Mike Ribero.

It is no secret that the Rangers general manager, Glen Sather, covets Brad Richards, and would love to acquire him as a top-line center for his team.

Ribero is another player that was in multiple Rangers-Stars trade rumors over the summer of 2010, but no trade would follow the rumors.

A deal for either of these players would be expected around the NHL's trade deadline in March, but Garrioch reports that the Rangers may be ready to throw an offer at the Stars for one of the centers, and they may do it soon.

I asked a very credible source, Todd Cordell of Sports Haze, and he answered that a deal for either of these players would be a deadline deal. He, Cordell, has also reported that the Rangers have a huge interest in Brad Richards.

Obviously the salary cap will have an affect on any type of trade, but then again, Glen Sather is a master when it comes to trades.

I'm sure he can find a way to get a deal done.

Jarome Iginla

The Jarome Iginla rumors should come to a close soon. Doubt the Calgary Flames trade him, but even if they do, why would the Rangers want (need) him?

They have a top right winger already (Marian Gaborik).

Miroslav Satan

Satan is close to signing with a team and, according to his agent, there are three offers on the table.

If the Rangers would like to add some offense, Satan may be a player the Rangers go after.

Marc-Andre Bergeron

Bergeron has missed the first month-in-a-half due to an injury, but it is expected that he will be cleared to play by December 1st.

Bergeron is a strong puck-moving defense man, and he is one of the best NHL defense man when it comes to playing on the power play.

The Rangers have struggled on the power play this season, and they are still in search of a strong, left handed, puck moving, defense man.

There are currently 10 teams interested in Bergeron, according to multiple media outlets, and the Rangers are one of those teams, according to Todd Cordell.

I truly believe the Rangers should pull the trigger on a one-year deal with Bergeron. He is still moderately young at age 30, and he would be a huge asset on the power play.

He would also have a huge impact on second season defense man, Michael Del Zotto.

Bergeron will come at a cheap price, and he would be a huge asset to the team.

Olli will be a "No-Show"

Remember Olli Jokenin (also known as JOKEnin)?

The mid-season trade acquisition who was an absolute no-show as a Ranger was supposed to return to Madison Square Garden to play his former team, tonight. But, sadly, Olli was suspended for three games, and this will be his final game of the suspension.

So, there will be no "boo-birds" for Jokenin at the Garden Monday night as the Rangers host the Flames.
