Manny Pacquiao Returns Home as He Shares Victory with Filipino People
Newly crowned WBC super welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao flew in early Saturday morning from the US with wife Jinkee and his entourage after a bloody fight with Mexican Antonio Margarito last Saturday at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
With his unanimous decision over the giant Margarito, Pacquiao becomes the only professional boxer in history to win eight times in as many weight divisions.
ABS-CBN News reports: In his arrival speech at the airport, Pacquiao offered his victory to his family, fans and the Filipino people.
Pacquiao said he will go back to work in Congress on Monday and focus on projects for his district in Sarangani.
The Filipino boxing superstar has just attended a thanksgiving mass at the Quiapo Church in downtown Manila. After the mass he headed for Malacanang Palace for an audience with the president of the Philippines.
The president's office has not decided on what other award it will confer on the Filipino champion as he has gotten just about every award from the palace for his past achievements.
In congress, he is scheduled to receive another congressional medal for his latest victory and for having broken a world record in boxing history.
A hero's welcome also awaits the Manny Pacquiao in his wife's province of Sarangani and in General Santos City, his hometown.
Pacquiao is expected to return to the ring mid next year with still undisclosed opponent.
Boxing fans from around the world are begging Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr to face each other in the ring next year to determine who is truly the greatest fighter of this generation.
There were also reports of possible clash between the Filipino boxing icon and Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez along with Shane Mosley and Miguel Cotto.
