NFL Week 11 Picks: Raiders Over Steelers and 5 Shockers Against the Spread

James BrownNov 19, 2010

This is the most unpredictable year in the NFL and selecting the favorite to go to the Super Bowl is not as easy as it has been in the past. This is due to the incredible balance in the league and the amount of good teams in the NFL.

Every week, there is potential to be an incredible upset and Week 11 has plenty of games that could stun the NFL world.

Here are five shockers for Week 11 in the NFL.

All lines are taken from online sportsbook BetMania.

St. Louis (+3) over Atlanta

The Falcons seem to be the flavor of the week, and after a big win against the Ravens, the bandwagon is starting to fill up in Atlanta. The latest NFL betting lines posted by BetMania have the Falcons as three-point road favorites.

These are not the Rams of the recent past that have struggled all year long. The defense is playing great football, and Sam Bradford is on pace to be the rookie of the year. With a balanced running and passing attack, the Rams are a threat to make the playoffs this year.

The Falcons are a much different team on the road.

The Falcons are 1-7 ATS in their last eight games on turf, and the Rams are 6-1 ATS in their last seven games as an underdog. The Rams are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games and 4-0 ATS in the last four games after a loss.

The Rams get the outright win as home pups against the dirty birds.

Rams (+3)

Buffalo (+5.5) over Cincinnati

The Buffalo Bills won their first game last week and will look for win No. 2 on the season when they invade Cincinnati this weekend. The latest NFL betting lines posted by BetMania have the Bengals as 5.5 point home favorites.

Bills quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick spent some time playing with the Bengals and would love to play well against his former club. The Bills will play hard for every minute of this football game, and that helps when your betting on the underdog.

The Bengals are 6-20 against the spread (ATS) in their last 26 games as a favorite and 1-12 ATS in their last 13 games as a favorite of 3.5-10.0. The Bills seem to actually play better on the road, as they are 28-11-1 ATS against a team with a losing record and 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games.

The Bills take the Bengals to the wire, and the points are a gift in this game since the Bills could easily win outright.

Bills (+5)

Minnesota (+3) over Green Bay

CHICAGO - NOVEMBER 14: Brett Favre #4 of the Minnesota Vikings walks back to the field of play from the sidelines during a game against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on November 14, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois. The Bears defeated the Vikings 27-13. (Ph

The Vikings and Brett Favre battle his former team in this NFC North matchup. The latest NFL betting lines posted by BetMania have the Packers as three-point road favorites.

The Vikings are most likely going to miss the playoffs after losing last week to the Bears. But if they have any chance of competing in this division, they need to win this game.

Brett Favre always ponders retirement at the end of the year, but with the long list of injuries, it seems as though this is it for the aging QB. The last thing he wants to do is lose against his former club. The Vikings may be a rudderless ship with Brad Childress at the helm, but the players respect Favre and will get up for this game.

This series is always a close one as the underdog is 17-6 against the spread (ATS) in their last 23 meetings. The Vikings are 7-2-1 ATS in their last 10 home games, and the Packers are 2-6 ATS in their last eight games as a favorite of 0.5-3.0.

Favre makes one last highlight reel against his former club.

The surprising Oakland Raiders travel to Heinz field to take on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The latest NFL betting lines posted by BetMania have the Steelers as seven-point home favorites.

When I originally wrote my NFL picks against the spread for Week 11 article, I picked the Steelers to win and cover against the Raiders, but I am having second thoughts.

The Steelers have a new kicker after waiving Jeff Reed, and it will be an adjustment to kick at Heinz field, which is one of the hardest places to kick in the NFL. Surprisingly enough, the Raiders have one of the best offenses in the NFL and a sick ground game.

The Steelers have a good defense, but the owners are questioning the coaches play-calling and requesting (or demanding) more running. This will result in a close game, and therefore the points are at a premium.

The Steelers are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games as a home favorite and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight home games. The Raiders are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games as a road underdog and 7-3 ATS in the last ten games against the AFC.

Everyone expects the Steelers to bounce back after losing to the Patriots, but they may have been exposed.

Raiders (+7)

Indianapolis (+3.5) over New England

Two of the best quarterbacks to ever play the game face off against one another when the New England Patriots host the Indianapolis Colts. The latest NFL betting lines posted by BetMania have the Patriots listed as 3.5 point home favorites with the total set at 51 for this game.

In one of the best rivalries in football, the Colts battle the Patriots, and the winner undoubtedly could be considered one of the best teams in the league. The winner of this game the last six of the seven times have gone to the Super Bowl, so winning this game is crucial.

Manning may not have all his weapons, but it won’t matter because the Patriots’ defense is allowing 390 yards a game! The Colts can put pressure on Brady, and it will make for a very long day for the home team.

The Colts are 9-1-2 ATS against a team with a winning record, 12-4-2 ATS in their last 18 road games and 18-7-3 ATS in their last 28 games following a win. The underdog is 11-3-2 ATS in their last 16 meetings, and the Colts are 4-1-1 ATS in their last six meetings.

The Colts pull off the upset and get the big victory on the road.

Colts (+3.5)
