Wenger To Do Some Last Minute Shopping

Having mentioned earlier that he was looking to bolster his squad, Arsene Wenger is willing to take it up a notch as the transfer deadline draws closer.

The manager, having found a replacement for the departed Alex Hleb by signing french sensation Samir Nasri is now keen on finding a player to fill the void left by Mathieu Flamini who was the first player to leave the Emirates this summer.

Liverpool's Xabi Alonso, Villa's Gareth Barry and Swiss International Gokhan Inler have all been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer with the former reportedly turning down an offer from the gunners to stay with Udinese. Feyenoord's Jonathan De Guzman was the latest to be linked.

Wenger however, insists that he has no interest in the player and remains confident that he can get the ideal player before the transfer window closes. Speaking to Sky Sports he said: "Last year it was midnight and this time we're ready to stay up all night if it is needed. We have still a long time to go." 

"For a while they all talk the talk and nothing happens, then in the last four or five days every half-an-hour there is a headline saying someone had signed somewhere."

"When you have experience of transfer dealings, you know that as long as something is not signed you know it can change very quickly so can look very silly, so you don't want to come out and announce it."

He also said that if the right players were available he will definitely sign one or two and added: "However, I believe it's more interesting for us to focus on our strengths and quality than looking outside." 

With Arsenal director Danny Fiszman confirming that there's enough cash available for Le Boss if he wishes to go out and buy new players, he shouldn't find it hard to land a decent anchorman to partner Cesc Fabregas in the middle of the park.
