Redskins Vs Titans: Interview With Titans Writer, 5 Questions For 'Skins Fans

Brandon KeenerNov 18, 2010

Good day to everyone who happens to be taking the time to read this article.

After the Monday Night Massacre the Redskins have to rebound and travel to Music City, Nashville, Tennessee to meet the Titans.

The Titans have an explosive defense with a revolving door on defensive line and arguably one of the best coaches in the NFL with Jeff Fisher.

This week I reprise my role as an interviewer and this week Titans Contributor Brandon Griffin was kind enough to give the Redskins fans a little insight as to what we may see this coming Sunday.

In the words of Bud Light, "here we go."

Brandon Keener - Who is the number one player that the Redskins should watch out for on that is flying under the radar? The player that not many people know about but will have a huge impact in the game on Sunday.

Brandon Griffin - One player has been under the radar this season that could have a huge game this Sunday would be Justin Gage. He isn’t a new upcoming star, but he also isn’t a complete household name because of his injuries. He came back last week and is a big red zone threat for the Titans.

BK - What is the one factor that makes the Titans pass rush so effective?

BG - The Titans pass rush is very effective because they always have fresh players on the defensive line. Some teams like the Jets and Chargers use blitz schemes to pressure the quarterback, but the Titans just swap in and out lineman throughout the game to keep them fresh.

BK - The Titans defense have played very well so far this season for fantasy teams with plenty of takeaways and stops on third down. The Redskins are at the bottom of the list in the NFL for third down conversions. Do you anticipate the Redskins having a hard time on third down again this week?

BG - The Redskins as you said haven’t been good on third down this season. I think they may get a few conversions this week, but they will probably end up with less than .500 on their conversion rate for the game. Pressure on the quarterback is key on third down and has helped the Titans a lot this year.

BK - Vince Young or Kerry Collins? Who is the better quarterback to have for this Titans offense? The scrambler with accuracy problems or the limited mobility pocket passers?

BG - This is a question Titans fans debate time and time again, but since his time in Texas I have been a huge Vince Young fan. Kerry Collins didn’t do well last year and when he has played this year he hasn’t been as good as he was in the past. He doesn’t seem to have the arm power to get the ball to the receiver. Luckily, he got a lot of recognition against the Eagles when it was Kenny Britt making the plays on poorly thrown balls.

Vince Young has struggled with his accuracy in the past, but since coming in last season he has improved greatly. I have watched him on television and in person and to be honest I don’t think there is a quarterback in the league that can match his deep ball accuracy.

BK - If you could pick the one thing that makes Chris Johnson stand out among the rest of the pack as an NFL running back, what would that be?

BG - If I had to pick one thing that makes Johnson stand out it would obviously be his speed, but instead of going with something everyone knows about him even without watching him I am going to say his toughness. He is relatively small compared to guys like Adrian Peterson at 5’11" 200lbs, but he takes big hits in stride just like some of the more powerful running backs. His toughness and quick feet allow him to scamper away from tacklers if they don’t wrap him up.

Alright Skins fans to quickly recap what this will mean for Sunday for Washington. The  Skins offensive line should not get too comfortable look at the same face on the other side of the line because the pressure will be coming from all angles and  and from different bodies. Expect a lot of pressure and quick throws from Donovan McNabb again this week with very few opportunities for the deep ball.

Our defense can look forward to a lot of deep passes being thrown with accuracy and the Titans have the receivers that can catch them. The secondary needs to be more prepared this week than they were on Monday night. Clear your head, drink a Red Bull because they are going to need the wings.

Another thank you to Brandon Griffin for doing the interview this week and giving the Skins fans a Titans outlook on the game.

See you Sunday, Hail!
