Steve Nash Trade Rumors: Top 10 Win-Win Fits for Nash and the Suns
Will he go? Will he stay?
Phoenix Suns point guard Steve Nash is at the center of trade rumors. He called it "a lot of chatter" and coach Alvin Gentry has said the Suns star won't be traded.
Phoenix is 6-5, and if it doesn't remain in playoff contention, this could make sense. Keep in mind as well that Nash is 36, and is scheduled to make $22 million over the next two years. It would be great for Nash to retire as a Sun, but clearing that money would also allow for Phoenix to begin rebuilding quicker.
Possible teams have been thrown around like New York and Orlando, but are there others?
Here are 10 teams that would be a win-win for Nash and Phoenix:
10. New Jersey Nets
1 of 10
New majority owner Mikhail Prokhorov (pictured) made a run at LeBron and Carmelo Anthony.
Both attempts failed. How about another shot at a superstar?
9. Toronto Raptors
2 of 10
Steve Nash could close out his career back in his home country.
Toronto has the players available, including Andrea Bargnani (pictured), and a multi-player trade could be made.
8. Dallas Mavericks
3 of 10
From a PR perspective, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban would pounce on this.
Cuban still hasn't escaped criticism after trading Nash away to Phoenix, where he won two MVP awards. You could possibly swap Nash for Jason Kidd and Caron Butler, and Nash could also help continue to groom JJ Barea.
7. LA Clippers
4 of 10
Los Angeles could cut bait with Baron Davis and Chris Kaman, and Nash could join talented young players Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon and give the team an immediate leader.
6. Oklahoma City Thunder
5 of 10
Expectations have grown this year for a young Oklahoma City team following last year's trip to the playoffs, where they were easily the toughest test for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Oklahoma City could offer up James Harden or Jeff Green (pictured), or use Morris Peterson and Eric Maynor in a trade package.
5. Charlotte Bobcats
6 of 10
Phoenix could get a promising young guard in DJ Augustin.
Other possible players you could throw in are Nazr Mohammed, who has an expiring contract, and swap Boris Diaw's contract for that of Hedo Turkoglu's (who could be packaged with Nash).
Nash could also get a chance to work with coach Larry Brown.
4. Miami Heat
7 of 10
The Heat needs a point guard, and could give up Mike Miller and James Jones in a trade. Imagine Nash joining the Big Three.
You'd have to think that would be a boost.
3. Atlanta Hawks
8 of 10
Atlanta could get rid of Jamal Crawford's expiring contract, and package Jeff Teague, Marvin Williams and Jordan Crawford.
Nash could then go play for a playoff contender and a franchise that has lots of promise.
2. New York Knicks
9 of 10
The Knicks have been the favorites in regards to landing Nash.
It could give Nash a chance to reunite with former coach Mike D'Antonio and teammate Amare Stoudemire. Nash also happens to have a home in New York's SoHo neighborhood, and has been spotted there in the summertime.
New York could get rid of Raymond Felton and Wilson Chandler, but keep in mind that Nash isn't getting younger and will probably retire before the Knicks are serious contenders.
1. Orlando Magic
10 of 10
The Magic could trade Jameer Nelson and either Marcin Gortat or Brandon Bass. Nash, in turn, could get a chance to team up with center Dwight Howard.
Think that might work well?
