DeAngelo Williams May Have Played His Last Down As a Carolina Panther

Paul MuellerNov 18, 2010

Carolina Panthers' running back DeAngelo Williams was placed on injured reserve this week, as he is still ailing from a sprained foot that caused him to miss the last three games.

His future with the Panthers is now in jeopardy.

Williams will be a free agent in 2011, and to this point, he and agent Jimmy Sexton have had no talks with the team about re-signing the 27 year-old.

At 1-8 and with head coach John Fox in the last year of his contract, personnel decisions will likely be put off until a new head coach is named in the offseason. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney has reportedly not spoken with any pending free agents to this point.

When asked, Hurney had little to say about any Panthers free agent, including Williams.

"We've said throughout we want to keep the core of this team together," Hurney told the Charlotte Observer.

Williams was a 1,500-yard rusher in 2008 and an 1,100-yard rusher in 2009. In 2010, he has tallied just 361 yards in six games, finding the end zone just once.
