Boston Bruins Tim Thomas' Amazing Start: Is He Back on Track?
If someone told me that Boston Bruins' Tim Thomas was going to play a good season after the lackluster season he had in the 2009-2010 campaign, I would believe you.
If someone told me that in his first 12 starts that we would have 10 wins, one loss (he was yanked from a game and Rask took the loss by allowing winning goal after tying it against Washington), four shoutouts, a save percentage of .959 (ranked first) and GAA of 1.37 (ranked second), then I would have thought that you were kidding.
But here we are.

After Thomas was hurt, his range of movement was not the same. He tried to adjust, but it wasn't working. This caused him to loss his starting job to Tuukka Rask, who filled in very nicely and helped the Bruins to take it to the second round of the playoffs.
Shortly after the disappointing ousting of the Bruins at the hands of the Philadelphia Flyers, it was reported that Thomas was to undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip. Analysts went back to the tapes and did see that his style was not the same and that would have explained the lapse of play from the 2008-2009 Vezina trophy winner.
Still, there were doubters as to how a 36-year-old goalie can come back from such an injury.
There were factors that were not considered.
First and foremost, Thomas did not play NHL-level hockey as long has most of his counterparts did at his age. He doesn't have the same wear and tear of other goalies.
Secondly, he is heavily involved with Yoga, an exercise that keeps him limber, and he accredits a lot of his success to it.
The last point is that his attitude is much like his play. He never gives up. He had stated time and time again that he has fought hard to get to this level and he will do what it takes to maintain it.
Now, after his surgery and rehab, Thomas shot out of the gate and has been very successful thus far. From what we have seen so far, he could very well be in another All-Star game, and if the success continues, who knows how far he and the Bruins will go this year.
Just how far that is remains to be seen.
