New York Rangers: Reviewing Derek Boogaards Fights of 2010-11

Nick PerriNov 18, 2010

On July 1st, 2010, the New York Rangers signed Derek Boogaard to a four-year deal, with a cap-hit of $1.65million.

Many Ranger fans did not approve of the deal when it was first announced, but Boogaard has been a strong offseason acquisition thus far for the Rangers.

Boogaard has made the Rangers a tougher team, and has provided entertainment for his new team and their fan base.

The toughest player in the league is wearing a New York Rangers jersey not to score goals, but to be the teams top tough guy, and top fighter; and he succeeded thus far.

Boogaard has fought five times in 15 games this season for the Rangers, and against four different players.

This slide-show will review his fights, grade them, and label the fight as a win-loss-or draw.

The fight started with five straight punches coming from Torontos fighter, Colton Orr, but Derek Boogaard fought back, throwing the next six punches in the battle.

Boogaard threw more punches to the face of Orr than Orr did to Boogaard, but the take down by Colton Orr at the end makes this fight an even draw.

Derek Boogaard started off well, throwing the first four punches of the fight. But Shawn Thorton came back and threw two heavy punches to the face of the "Boogey-Man". Boogaard ended strong with four punches to Thortons ribs, but he did not fight strong enough for a win.

After a ten second staring contest between Boogaard and Shelley, the fight began. Boogaard threw some quick punches at Shelleys side and face, but Shelley came back with a few punches to Boogaards side. After taking four punches from Shelley, Boogaard threw punch after punch, dropping Shelley once with a huge punch to the face, and then hitting him again while he (Shelley) was attempting to get back up. A clear win for the "Boogey-Man".

Round one went well for Derek Boogaard, as he threw multiple punches to the face of Steve MacIntyre, including a helmet knock-off punch. Boogaard brought his A-game in this battle, and won the fight by punches. This was not the final fight between these two, though...

Round two was an even match between the two heavy weight fighters, as both matched punch for punch. MacIntyre threw a few early punches, but Boogaard came back with multiple face and side blows. I can't give Boogaard the win, though, as the fight was pretty much even throughout.

Too bad these two teams only meet once this season.
