Fantasy Football Week 11: 10 Smartest Start'em, Sit'em Moves of the Week

Brian DiTullioNov 17, 2010

Fantasy Football gurus unite, we have a look at which owners are going to be rolling in points this week, and which ones will be hoping they have someone else on their team who can start.

We have 10 sure things, and 10 players who probably won't have good weeks, and it's time to play it safe and just bench them until next week.

As you can see by our lead picture, Michael Vick is featured in this piece, but do we recommend you start him or sit him?

Read on to find out.

10. Sit 'em: Matt Hasselbeck

1 of 20
GLENDALE, AZ - NOVEMBER 14: Quarterack Matt Hasselback #8 of the Seattle Seahawks throws a pass against the Arizona Cardinals at University of Phoenix Stadium on November 14, 2010 in Glendale, Arizona. (Photo by Stephen Dunn/Getty Images)

Matt Hasselbeck is facing the New Orleans Saints defense behind an offensive line that is best described as "patchwork."

It's probably best if Hasselbeck faked a concussion in the first quarter and just come back next week.

10. Start 'em: Peyton Hillis

2 of 20
CLEVELAND - NOVEMBER 07: Running back Peyton Hillis #40 of the Cleveland Browns runs the ball against the New England Patriots at Cleveland Browns Stadium on November 7, 2010 in Cleveland, Ohio. (Photo by Matt Sullivan/Getty Images)

Hillis is a monster who still got 82 yards and a touchdown versus the Jets fourth-ranked rush defense last week.

Against the Jaguars 21st-ranked rush defense, Hillis should have a lot more than 100 yards and possibly two touchdowns again. He's pretty much the entire Browns backfield, and there are no touchdown thieves to be found there.

9. Sit 'em: Hines Ward

3 of 20
PITTSBURGH - NOVEMBER 14: Hines Ward #86 of the Pittsburgh Steelers walks off of the field with help from the training staff after injuring himself during the game against the New England Patriots on November 14, 2010 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsy

Ward got blown up last week and left the game with a concussion. Now the Steelers face Oakland's defense, which isn't soft.

Guaranteed Ward will be a hunted man this week, and it's probably best to look elsewhere for wide receiver points.

9. Start 'em: Calvin Johnson

4 of 20
ORCHARD PARK, NY - NOVEMBER 14: Calvin Johnson #81 of the Detroit Lions makes a catch behind Bryan Scott #43 of the Buffalo Bills at Ralph Wilson Stadium on November 14, 2010 in Orchard Park, New York. Buffalo won 14-12. (Photo by Rick Stewart/Getty Imag

Calvin Johnson is a stud wide receiver, and he's going to have a good day against the Dallas defense. Granted the defense may look a little better than it did under Wade Phillips, but Johnson is better than anyone the Cowboys will have on the field to cover him Sunday.

8. Sit 'em: Brandon Marshall

5 of 20
MIAMI - OCTOBER 24: Receiver Brandon Marshall #19 is brought down by the Pittsburgh Steelers at Sun Life Stadium on October 24, 2010 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Marc Serota/Getty Images)

The Dolphins haven't been able to figure out what to do with Brandon Marshall all year, and now they're on their third quarterback.

Marshall's frustrations will continue for another week. Move along, nothing to see here.

8. Start 'em: Dez Bryant

6 of 20
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - NOVEMBER 14: Dez Bryant #88 of the Dallas Cowboys celebrates after his first quarter touchdown reception against the New York Giants was confirmed by video replay on November 14, 2010 at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherfor

Understand that Dez Bryant is going to be one of the best wide receivers in the league sooner rather than later, and that this week he will outclass the Detroit secondary and score big because the Cowboys want you to know that they will throw, and throw often.

Bryant will fight for the ball and come out on top, that is if he hasn't left his coverage in the dust.

7. Sit 'em: Brett Favre

7 of 20
CHICAGO - NOVEMBER 14: Brett Favre #4 of the Minnesota Vikings hands off to Adrian Peterson #28 against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field on November 14, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois. The Bears defeated the Vikings 27-13. (Photo by Jonathan Daniel/Getty Ima

Brett Favre showed he could still put up some good fantasy numbers versus the Arizona Cardinals a few weeks ago.

The Packers are not the Arizona Cardinals.

Even if Favre hasn't retired from the league just yet, it's probably time you retired him from your league.

7. Start 'em: Thomas Jones

8 of 20
KANSAS CITY, MO - OCTOBER 24: Running back Thomas Jones #20 of the Kansas City Chiefs carries the ball up and over for a touchdown during the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on October 24, 2010 at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. (Photo

The Chiefs are playing the Arizona Cardinals, so if you have Thomas Jones, get him off the bench immediately.

The Cardinals can't stop much of anything this year.

6. Sit 'em: Vince Young

9 of 20
MIAMI - NOVEMBER 14: Quarterback Vince Young #10 of the Tennessee Titans throws against the Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium on November 14, 2010 in Miami, Florida. (Photo by Marc Serota/Getty Images)

Assuming Young starts, find another quarterback on your team, this will be Chris Johnson's day and Young will just be a game manager with that bum knee.

6. Start 'em: Maurice Jones-Drew

10 of 20
JACKSONVILLE, FL - NOVEMBER 14: Maurice Jones-Drew #32 of the Jacksonville Jaguars runs the ball during a game against the Houston Texans at EverBank Field on November 14, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

Despite the recent success of the Cleveland Browns offense, their depth is thin and now the injury bug is biting.

Maurice Jones-Drew is too talented a runner to let one or two players stop him, and the Browns will have to work on keeping him from scoring more than two or three times.

5. Sit 'em: Carson Palmer

11 of 20
INDIANAPOLIS - NOVEMBER 14: Carson Palmer #9 of the Cincinnati Bengals is sacked by Eric Foster #68 of the Indianapolis Colts during the NFL game at Lucas Oil Stadium on November 14, 2010 in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Colts won 23-17. (Photo by Andy Lyo

Carson Palmer's days as an actual NFL starter look numbered at this point, so it's probably best to not start him this week against the Bills because Palmer might think he'll be able to force passes, and that will just lead to more interceptions.

5. Start 'em: Phillip Rivers

12 of 20
HOUSTON - NOVEMBER 07: Quarterback Philip Rivers #17 of the San Diego Chargers looks for a receiver as linebacker Brian Cushing #56 of the Houston Texans applies pressure at Reliant Stadium on November 7, 2010 in Houston, Texas. (Photo by Bob Levey/Gett

If Jason Campbell can put up big numbers against the Broncos defense, just think what Phillip Rivers is going to do.

It's going to be a good day for Phillip Rivers owners.

4. Sit 'em: Steven Jackson

13 of 20
SAN FRANCISCO - NOVEMBER 14: Steven Jackson #39 of the St. Louis Rams runs against the San Francisco 49ers during an NFL game at Candlestick Park on November 14, 2010 in San Francisco, California. (Photo by Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images)

The Falcons run defense is ranked seventh in the league and the Falcons want to put some distance between themselves and the rest of the division.

Corey Peters and Jon Babineaux will be shutting down the inside lanes while the rest of the defense closes out the outside.

Jackson will be lucky to get 50 yards on the day, just bench him and wait for better times.

4. Start 'em: Kyle Orton

14 of 20
DENVER - NOVEMBER 14: Quarterback Kyle Orton #8 of the Denver Broncos greets his teammates as they enter the field to face the Kansas City Chiefs at INVESCO Field at Mile High on November 14, 2010 in Denver, Colorado. The Broncos defeated the Chiefs 49-2

Even with how good the Chargers defense is, they still give up points and Kyle Orton has been a fantasy owner's dream this year.

Plus, even with Tim Tebow acting as a touchdown thief on a few occassions, it hasn't really hurt Orton that much because he's still putting points on the board.

Get Orton out there and reap the rewards.

3. Sit 'em: Arian Foster

15 of 20
JACKSONVILLE, FL - NOVEMBER 14: Arian Foster #23 of the Houston Texans is tackled by Courtney Greene #36 during a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars at EverBank Field on November 14, 2010 in Jacksonville, Florida. (Photo by Mike Ehrmann/Getty Images)

The Jets have the fifth-ranked run defense in the league, and they held Peyton Hillis to less than 100 yards and one touchdown last week.

Foster isn't as big and bruising as Hillis, so he'll probably get less than that.

Bench Foster to fight another day.

3. Start 'em: Tom Brady

16 of 20
PITTSBURGH - NOVEMBER 14: Tom Brady #12 of the New England Patriots throws a pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers on November 14, 2010 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Chris McGrath/Getty Images)

Hey! Look! It's Tom Brady on a positive fantasy football list! It's 2007 again!

Well, not really, but Brady definitely found a rhythm last week, and if there's one thing the Patriots are good at, it's keeping good things going from week to week.

The Colts have the 10th-ranked pass defense in the league, but that will be lower after Sunday.

2. Sit 'em: Darren McFadden

17 of 20
OAKLAND, CA - NOVEMBER 07: Darren McFadden #20 of the Oakland Raiders runs against the Kansas City Chiefs during an NFL game at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on November 7, 2010 in Oakland, California. (Photo by Jed Jacobsohn/Getty Images)

Darren McFadden is going up against the Steelers defense.

You just don't run on the Steelers defense.

There will be yellow crime scene tape on the scene at this game if McFadden gets 25-30 carries.

2. Start 'em: Joe Flacco

18 of 20
ATLANTA - NOVEMBER 11: Quarterback Joe Flacco #5 of the Baltimore Ravens walks off the field after thier 26-21 loss to the Atlanta Falcons at Georgia Dome on November 11, 2010 in Atlanta, Georgia. (Photo by Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images)

This is Joe Flacco walking off the field after the Atlanta game where he had 215 yards and three touchdowns with one pick.

Now he face the Carolina defense, or what passes for the Carolina defense.

I can see the Flacco owners now, feet up on the desk, cigar in mouth, counting their ill-gotten gains.

1. Sit 'em: Eli Manning

19 of 20
EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ - NOVEMBER 14: Eli Manning #10 of the New York Giants looks on against the Dallas Cowboys on November 14, 2010 at the New Meadowlands Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Jim McIsaac/Getty Images)

Eli Manning can be a bit of a streaky quarterback sometimes, and the "bad" Eli Manning was poking out the jersey last week versus the Cowboys.

What that usually means is  the "bad" Eli Manning will be in full control this week versus the Eagles and you would be better off starting his brother against the Patriots defense, not that that would be a great option, just a better one than this.

1. Start 'em: Michael Vick

20 of 20
LANDOVER, MD - NOVEMBER 15: Michael Vick #7 of the Philadelphia Eagles looks on while waiting for a review to be completed against the Washington Redskins on November 15, 2010 at FedExField in Landover, Maryland. (Photo by Chris McGrath/Getty Images)

Understand that the Giants defense is better than the Redskins defense and that Vick won't have the same kind of numbers he had Monday night.

With that understanding, though, comes the realization Andy Reid has not yet fully exploited Vick's talents yet and that we're probably going to see some new wrinkles on Sunday versus the Giants that still will add up to very good numbers.

The Eagles are on a roll, and that most likely won't end this week.
