October In Boston: Can the Sox Pull out a Second Consecutive World Series Title?

Craig ElseboughAug 28, 2008

Watch out October, the Boston Red Sox are making a run for the top once again. And any MLB fan knows what that can mean for their beloved postseason team. If these guys get into the postseason, whether it is through the wild card or even at the top of the A.L. East, they will make mincemeat of their opposition, as they have shown in the past.

Boston's staff and players can get in the mindset that they will not be defeated, and that mentality has gotten them two rings.

Boston has not had the best of luck when it comes to the injury department, but they have still shown that they can come out and win ball games. So, even though Mike Lowell and J.D. Drew may not be fully recovered, the rest of the squad can keep the team going.

Newly acquired Mark Kotsay is looking into October already and hopes to be starting in center field for Boston soon. And Big Papi has had a special strength in October, so they might not be the Red Sox of last season, but there is still a great chance for them to be World Series Champs.

Two players that are going to be key for Boston's success are the same two players that are incredibly underrated and almost unknown in baseball. The players that have been the backbone for this team this year: Dustin Pedroia and Kevin Youkilis.

They have both been batting over .315 all year and are both capable of hitting dingers out of any park. Pedroia has 15 home runs and could have many more, but he primarily goes for base hits. However, last night, against the Yankees, he hit his first grand slam in his MLB career.

And with 72 RBI, he is showing that he can be a force, even at a whole 5'9".

The other half of this offensive force, Kevin Youkilis, has 26 homers and over 70 RBI, as well. He also carries the flag for oddest batting stance in baseball as well.

So, any way you put it, teams in the postseason will have to prepare in advance if the Red Sox end up in the playing for the title. Even the surprising Rays are going to have their hands full against this powerhouse of a team.

So, Angels, Cubs, Mets, and all other teams that may make it in October, open your eyes and tighten your gloves; Tessie is coming for consecutive World Series titles, and the Sox will be swinging hard.
