Michael Vick Is His Vintage Self, Reminds Us Why He Still Has Plenty To Offer

Mike HodgesNov 16, 2010

After witnessing the Philadelphia Eagles thrashing of Washington Redskins on Monday night, and Michael Vick's remarkable performance, there's no reason why he shouldn't be considered a strong candidate for NFL Most Valuable Player award.

Vick, who was playing in his sixth game for Philadelphia this season, put on a highlight reel performance throwing four touchdown passes and scoring two touchdowns. Also, he completed 20 out of 28 passes and threw for over 300 yards and rushed for 50 yards in the game, setting an NFL record. What's even more impressive is that Vick has yet to lose a fumble or throw an interception this season.

"I've had some great games in my day, but I don't think I've had one quite like this one," Vick stated to the media following the win over the Redskins.

While he has been nothing but stellar for the Eagles so far this season, the past two games have finally seen Vick reach his potential as a quarterback and lead his team into a new direction. He's upstaged two of the NFL's best quarterbacks in Peyton Manning and Donavan McNabb and the Eagles are 4-0 when Vick starts.

While the league is still dominated by star quarterbacks Tom Brady and Peyton Manning, Vick is now having his name tossed around in the same category and could potentially play spoiler to these two all-time greats. Not only are the Eagles currently establishing themselves as potential Super Bowl contenders with an offense that sits in second in points per game and third in total yards, but Vick is also reestablishing himself as a star quarterback boasting a league-best passer rating of 153.1. Should he continue to put on similar performances, there will be no argument to include him in the MVP conversation.

The Eagles currently hold a 6-3-0 record and they are tied with New York Giants for top spot in the NFC East. The two teams will collide in a pivotal game this week, as Vick will square off with another Manning, Peyton's brother, Eli.

Considering his status in the NFL a few years ago, no one would of ever imagined Vick sporting an NFL jersey again. However he has turned his life around and has remained out of trouble since being reinstated last year.

Michael Vick's season could not be scripted any better, as he has battled through adversity to retain his credibility as a professional athlete. It just goes to show that in all walks of life, everyone deserves to have a second chance.
