Manchester United Supporters Should Tell the Glazers To Leave Old Trafford

Roberto Alvarez-GallosoNov 16, 2010

The Glazer Family have announced their intention to pay off the $350 Million debt incurred by the family in its ownership of Manchester United.

The supporters of Manchester United (myself included) have responded by asking the Glazers the proverbial question used in a Wendy's Commercial: Where's The Beef?

The Manchester United Supporters Trust (MUST) have added their voice to the chorus of people asking for transparency.

The Glazer Family have done nothing more than damage the club financially and emotionally. They actually invaded the club without consulting with the fans in 2005.

The family have made certain people leave Old Trafford to form a rival club. Another group formed the Manchester United Supporters Trust in an attempt to buy back the club.

While there have been attempts to purchase the club from Manchester United, most have resulted in failure.

Meanwhile, The Glazer Family started to refinance their loans for Manchester United, which were secured against the assets of United to the tune of $1,047,401,777.78.

The interest payment is $95.21 with the possibility of United falling into the hands of hedge funds if the loan is not repaid by 2010.

Presently, the Glazers are announcing that they will pay their massive debt in such a short time. It was a debt that the club could not afford and was without permission of the supporters.

We can accept the status quo, or we can group together and tell the Glazer Family that enough is enough.

In addition to asking the Glazer family the need for transparency, I would like to ask something more. Using peaceful methods and the legal system, we should force the Glazers to reveal how they will pay off the debt.

We should also challenge the Glazers to sell their holdings in Manchester United back to the supporters and leave Old Trafford. While I congratulate those who have protested against the Glazers inside and outside of Old Trafford, we must continue the pressure and bring more publicity to such a noble cause.

We should also support MUST in their efforts to buy back Manchester United in order to help our club.

The decision is in our hands.

PS: At the time of this article, it appears that the Glazers may have trouble with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
