Fantasy Football Week 11: Reggie Bush and 9 Other Waiver Wire Pickups
We've all been there.
You're heading into another week of match-ups, scrambling to fill holes left at various spots throughout your team. If you have one or two horses still available, you're sitting there thinking, "OK, let me just hope I can get a touchdown or two from these random players and pull out a nail-biter."
There is hope, and there are players available who could fulfill those roles.
As a longtime fantasy player, I know the nerves this causes. If you're having troubles deciding, fire back a comment, and I'll see if I can help further.
Let's go to the waiver wire.
Here are 10 possible pickups that could give your team a boost.
10. Reggie Bush
1 of 10
The Saints' running back is expected to return for this week's game against Seattle.
He's been out since Week 2 with a leg injury. The Saints have had to pick up Julius Jones to help in the backfield, but it's worth the risk to go ahead and get Bush, who can also get you points off receiving.
Bush could inject some life into a Saints ground game that's averaged a paltry 94 yards per game and has scored three touchdowns.
9. Tyler Thigpen
2 of 10
Crazy to think you may grab the Dolphins' third string quarterback, but with big risks often come big rewards.
Thigpen is being thrust into action for Thursday's game with Chicago after both Chad Pennington and Chad Henne were hurt in the win over Tennessee. Thigpen completed 4-of-6 passes for 64 yards, including a nine yard touchdown pass to Anthony Fasano.
Fasano is one of the targets that Thigpen will have at his disposal, along with Patrick Cobbs and Brandon Marshall.
8. Mike Thomas
3 of 10
He caught one of the most incredible passes of the season last week against Houston on a Hail Mary from David Garrard.
Thomas leads the Jaguars with 41 catches for 536 yards. He has only two touchdowns on the season, but they have come in the Jaguars' last two games.
Expect Cleveland to key in on him, but Thomas should be able to get you some points at least off his yardage.
7. Nate Washington
4 of 10
Here's the thing with the Tennessee receiver: You may not get big yards, but touchdowns are possible.
Washington is the team's second leading receiver with 377 yards, but he also has just five touchdowns.
Last week, he had one against Miami, but there's a chance he could score again when the Titans face a Redskins defense that is allowing almost 287 yards passing per game.
6. Mohamed Massaqoui
5 of 10
He does have only 15 catches this season, but the young Cleveland receiver scored in last week's overtime loss to the New York Jets.
Cleveland continues to gain confidence and has shown it can hang with the NFL's best. Now it faces a Jacksonville team that has one of the league's worst pass defenses, allowing 272 yards passing per game. In last week's miraculous 31-24 win over Houston, Texans quarterback Matt Schaub finished with 314 yards passing and two touchdowns.
Cleveland rookie quarterback Colt McCoy should love seeing that, and could very well match those numbers, which means Massaquoi could be a viable option for fantasy owners.
5. Troy Smith
6 of 10
The 49ers are facing a Tamp Bay team that allowed Carolina rookie Jimmy Clausen to throw for 191 yards in last week's 31-16 victory.
Smith is more mobile, and he is coming off a huge outing last week when he threw for 356 yards in a 23-20 overtime victory over St. Louis.
I'd roll the dice here and feel confident.
It's not a humongous risk you're taking.
4. Derek Anderson
7 of 10
Makes sense to go ahead and get the Cardinals quarterback, especially after he threw for 322 yards in last week's 36-18 loss to Seattle.
He'll go up against a Chiefs team that couldn't stop Denver's Kyle Orton, who threw for 296 yards in a shocking 49-29 victory.
Orton and backup Tim Tebow also combined for five touchdown passes.
3. Jermaine Gresham
8 of 10
The Cincinnati tight end looked sharp in last week's loss to Indianapolis, finishing with nine catches for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Gresham's caught 40 passes this season, and should get plenty of looks when Cincinnati hosts Buffalo, which did give up 323 yards passing to Detroit's Shaun Hill.
Buffalo hung on for a 14-12 victory, however, which was their first of the season.
2. Rob Gronkowski
9 of 10
The Patriots' tight end finished with five catches for 72 yards and three touchdowns in New England's 39-26 win over Pittsburgh.
New England's offense has had a string of capable tight ends who have been great options for Tom Brady in short yardage situations. Gronkowski was added by 8,005 owners already today on Yahoo.
He should be a factor when the Patriots renew their rivalry with Indianapolis this weekend.
1. Jon Kitna
10 of 10
You better nab him quickly before others do.
You wouldn't have thought Kitna would be a fantasy option, but you'd be insane not to grab him, after interim coach Jason Garrett opened up the offense and got aggressive Sunday against the New York Giants.
Kitna threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns, and had just one interception.
He should have the chance for another big day against Detroit, and will then have a short turnaround before facing New Orleans on Thanksgiving.
