Dana Back-Tracking on Lesnar V Mir III. A Wise Decision.
Brock Lesnar vs Frank Mir III "kind of makes sense".
It was these words that sent a dreary sigh through the MMA community.
However, no sooner had UFC President Dana White made said statement had he retracted thanks in part to the uproar posted on White's Twitter account.
“I usually don’t gauge things by the Internet; the Internet is [expletive] stupid,” White said. “My Twitter I do.
“On my Twitter, there are 1.2 million people that care about this thing and everything else, and you don’t get the goofy [expletive] that you get on the Internet.”
Regardless of what Dana may think of people on the internet, the majority of those complaining (including the fine people that wrote to Dana directly) are in fact the very people who follow UFC religiously.
I feel that around the MMA community there was a sense of agreement that a bout between Brock Lesnar and Roy 'Big Country' Nelson, was indeed the fight that "kind of makes sense".
My personal opinion..
Dana wants to protect his most valuable asset.
If Lesnar fights another dangerous striker with good take-down defense and he loses a second straight bout, the interest and PPV buys which include Lesnar will take a hit. Therefore Dana wants Lesnar to fight Mir, betting that Lesnar will win and climb back into title contention.
Anybody with a brain can foresee a re-run of UFC 100 if the match with Mir ever came to fruition.
I have nothing against Dana, Lesnar or the UFC.
As a matter-of-fact I am a huge fan. But White should stop treating us like fools, we know Lesnar can take Mir.
If and when we see Lesnar compete again, we want a fresh competitor who has the tools to give him problems ('Big Country' anyone?).
Someone with the ability to stand and throw, but capable on the ground as well.
Let me know of your thoughts, and potential opponents for Lesnar at his next PPV.
