Speed Vs Violence! F1 Vs UFC!! The Ultimate Showdown

Justin CheungNov 14, 2010

F1 and UFC are the 2 sporting events that I have been following the most in the last few years.  Often times I find that some UFC fighters remind me of some of the F1 drivers and vice versa.  So at the end his spectacular F1 season, I have decided to do a slide show to compare fighters and drivers that in my opinions could be considered "parallels".  See whether you agree with me!

Sebastian Vettel/Cain Valesquez

Where they are similar: Both of them are up and comers who have recently fulfilled their destinies and become world champions.  Both extremely talented and down to earth.

Where they are different: Vettel always shows up with a smile while Cain does not smile very much.

Fernando Alonso/Matt Hughes

Where they are similar: Both former champions who are not always easy to love, but are easy to admire.  They both have their own nemeses: Lewis Hamilton and Georges St. Pierre.  Both chasing for a 3rd world title (Hughes arguably).

Where they are different: Alonso is still very much in his prime and improving while Hughes is already past his prime and is unlikely to become a contender again.

Mark Webber/Chael Sonnen

Where they are similar: Both of them were considered journeymen at one point in their respective career.  Both had breakout years in 2009 and 2010.  Both came up short to win a world title.  Both are vocal characters.

Where they are different: While both are outspoken, you can't help but feel that Mark is just being candid while Sonnen is quite frankly, just a BSer.

Lewis Hamilton/Anderson Silva

Where they are similar: In my humble opinion, they have the most raw talents for their respective sports.  Both are flashy and extremely confident in their own abilities.

Where they are different: While Silva has very much cemented his place in UFC history, Hamilton is at least 2-3 world championships away from fulfilling his destiny.  Anderson Silva has become too risk-averse in his last few fights while Hamilton drives the wheels off his car to try to get the results.

Jenson Button/Georges St. Pierre

Where they are similar: Both are good looking athletes.  Both have won championships.  Both represent their sports well.  Jenson is a well rounded driver while GSP is the best all around fighter in MMA.

Where they are different: While both showed promise during their early days, it took Jenson much much longer to achieve the level of success that his countrymen thought he was capable of.  GSP will most likely be a more successful fighter than Jenson will ever be as a driver after they both retire (sorry, Jenson).

Kimi Raikkonen/BJ Penn

Where they are similar: This one is easy.  Both of them were coasting on their talents and did not give their best in their best days.  Both are former champions.

Where they are different: This one is easy too.  Kimi is about 1 billion times more likable than Penn.

There were only 6 F1 driver/MMA fighter pairings in this slide show, but really I could go all day with this.  What do you think of my choices?  Who will be your MMA versions of Michael Schumacher, Senna, etc?  Or who will be your F1 versions of Ken Shamrock, Royce Gracie, or even Fedor?  Please share your thoughts in the comments.
