🚨Sabres Force Game 7 vs. Habs

Martin Biron in Net As New York Rangers Host Tom Renney and Edmonton Oilers

Nick PerriNov 14, 2010

This afternoon, the New York Rangers will take on the Edmonton Oilers in their final game of a four-game homestand. The Rangers are 1-2-0 during the homestand, their lone win coming Thursday in overtime against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Rangers had their superstar winger back in the lineup for the first time in 12 games, as Marian Gaborik returned from his shoulder injury on Thursday.

Gaborik is expected in the lineup again, and he will likely remain on a line with Alexander Frolov and Erik Christensen.

Being that it is his second game back, expect Marian Gaborik to receive the same amount of playing time he did during Thursday night's game (18:40), and expect him to log a lot of ice time during power plays.

Another player expected to play for the second straight game is backup goaltender Martin Biron. Starting goaltender Henrik Lundqvist was forced to sit out Thursday due to an illness.

With only a two-hour notice, Biron jumped into the starter role, and impressed in the 3-2 victory over Buffalo. He saved 29 of 31 shots in the game, and made some crucial saves leading the Rangers to victory.

According to Steve Zipay of Newsday, Biron will start once again for the Rangers due to Henrik Lundqvist and his current state.

So far this season, Biron has started four games for the Rangers, winning two of them. In the four games Biron has played, he has allowed nine goals, averaging about two goals allowed per game.

Expect another strong outing by the top backup goaltender in the league.

According to Steve Zipay, the Rangers' lines during Saturday's practice were the same as they were during Thursday night's game. Derek Boogaard will likely remain a healthy scratch, and Todd White will continue to play on the fourth line.

The Rangers' strongest grouping of Brandon Dubinsky, Artem Anisimov and Ryan Callahan is expected to remain as the Rangers' top line combination.

The defensive pairings were also the same during Saturday morning's practice for the Rangers, according to Steve Zipay.

The Rangers and Oilers met once last season, with the Rangers winning 4-2. In the game, Marian Gaborik scored a goal and had an assist. The other goal scorers were Ryan Callahan and former Rangers Chris Higgins and Ales Kotalik.

Former New York Rangers and current Oilers head coach Tom Renney will return to Madison Square Garden for the first time since his firing in February 2009.

If there are any changes to the lineup prior to game time, I will update this article.

Update: According to Andrew Gross of The Record, Derek Boogaard WILL be in the lineup tonight for the Rangers, and Todd White will be a healthy scratch.
