Fantasy Football Week 10: Players To Keep on Your Bench

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballNov 13, 2010

It was supposed to be the pairing of two good receivers on offense ready to explode. Coming off an AFC North Division title and a trip to the playoffs, the Cincinnati Bengals signed wide receiver Terrell Owens to complement Chad Ochocinco, supposedly making one of the more dangerous receiver tandems in the league.

One of those players, Owens, has played his part. The other, Ochocinco, has not. Whereas Owens has flourished, Ochocinco appears lost and at times looks like he’s not mentally in the game at all.

Aside from two big games, Ochocinco has been a bust this year and Owens is now the top target of quarterback Carson Palmer. Now on to the players to bench in Week 10.

Matt Cassel (Kansas City Chiefs) @ Denver

With eight touchdowns and one interception in his last four games, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel is playing well. Not only that, but playing against the Denver Broncos this week would appear to be a favorable matchup for Cassel.

The Broncos have only held one quarterback to single-digit points this year. Yet, in their last five games the Broncos have allowed just one quarterback to pass for more than 200 yards, and seven of the 12 passing touchdowns they’ve given up came in the first three weeks.

Plus, Cassel doesn’t play well against Denver. Last year in two games against the Broncos he had three interceptions and no touchdowns.

Matt Forte (Chicago Bears) vs. Minnesota

Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte had a favorable matchup last week against the Buffalo Bills and only managed 49 yards on 14 carries. He also only caught three passes for 12 yards and never found the end zone.

The team may be starting to give more carries to Chester Taylor as well, who had 10 of them against Buffalo. This week’s game against the Minnesota Vikings will be more of a challenge for Forte than it was last week.

The Vikings have only allowed one 100-yard rusher in their last four games, and last week they limited the Arizona Cardinals running backs to just 37 rushing yards.

Miles Austin (Dallas Cowboys) @ New York Giants

The injury to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has affected the team greatly and that includes receiver Miles Austin.

Last week in a loss to the Green Bay Packers, Austin caught just two passes for 16 yards and no touchdowns. After the loss head coach Wade Phillips was fired, and offensive coordinator Jason Garrett was promoted to interim coach. It will be interesting to see how that plays out, and it could benefit Austin—but this week won’t be a good one for him.

Consider the fact that the Giants are giving up just 169 passing yards a game, and the last time these two teams met in Week 7 Austin had just 38 receiving yards and didn’t score.
