NFL Picks Week 10: New York Giants and Jets on Collision Course for Super Bowl?
My NFL Picks for Week 10 against the spread are here.
The New York Giants seem to be the experts' consensus top-team, and the Jets aren't far behind.
But this year is wind open, with teams like the Pittsburgh Steelers, New Orleans Saints, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, and New England Patriots all meriting Super Bowl chatter.
Right now an all New Jersey Super Bowl seems like it could become a reality, but both teams still have much to prove.
Especially the Jets, who will have to show that they won't be trapped by the Cleveland Browns like the Pats and Saints.
So here are my predictions for this week's NFL matchups...
Houston Texans (+1) Over Jacksonville Jaguars
1 of 8
Houston Texans (+1) Over Jacksonville Jaguars
Let's start with this week's best bet of the week.
Anyone can pass on the Texans defense, and that's why they've disappointed this season, but David Garrard isn't the type of quarterback that's going to work the deep part of the field.
And no one is questioning the Texans' offense even after two sub-par weeks.
Houston may have been exposed in the sense that it isn't a Super Bowl contender, but it is much better than Jacksonville, who outside of beating the Colts, has been awful.
Prediction: Houston 31, Jacksonville 14.
New York Giants (-14) Over Dallas Cowboys
2 of 8
New York Giants (-14) Over Dallas Cowboys
The Giants almost lost to the Cowboys a few weeks ago, but Jon Kitna wasn't the Dallas quarterback, and New York overcame a minus-three turnover margin to still capture a victory.
As long as New York doesn't cough up the ball so much this time, there is no way this one will be close.
Unfortunately a win here won't show much about the Giants, so we may have to wait to find out if the all New Jersey Super Bowl is as realistic as it seems.
Prediction: Giants 31, Cowboys 10
New York Jets (-3) Over Cleveland Browns
3 of 8
New York Jets (-3) Over Cleveland Browns
Cleveland is coming off wins against the Patriots and Saints, and a win here would prove the Browns are for real.
But the Browns two wins were the result of a combined 350 rushing yards and plus-six turnover margin.
If they can sustain those numbers, the Jets are in trouble.
But Cleveland isn't likely to continue forcing so many turnovers (even though Mark Sanchez has looked shaky the past few weeks), and there's almost no way they will be able to succeed against the Jets stout rushing defense.
I am convinced that Cleveland is a force to be reckoned with, but Peyton Hillis won't go off on the Jets.
And when he's off, the Browns are off.
Prediction: Jets 24, Browns 10.
Minnesota Vikings (-1) Over Chicago Bears
4 of 8
Minnesota Vikings (-1) Over Chicago Bears
Minnesota, despite all of the Favre-Childress-Sterger-Harvin, etc. drama, is still not out of the playoff race at 3-5.
If it can get a win here against the 5-3 Bears, it would be a huge step for the Vikings.
The Bears barely escaped Buffalo last week, and that came after losing to Washington and Seattle.
The Vikings needed a vintage-Favre performance to beat the Cardinals last week, but they shouldn't need the same heroics here.
Prediction: Vikings 27, Bears 20.
Miami Dolphins (+1.5) Over Tennessee Titans
5 of 8
Miami Dolphins (+1.5) Over Tennessee Titans
This is a huge game for both teams, with the 4-4 Dolphins falling way behind in the AFC East with a loss, and the Titans staying atop of the AFC South with a win.
The addition of Randy Moss could be huge for the Titans, but if Moss continues to mail it in, he won't be much of a help.
Miami's switch to Chad Pennington is a pretty big deal, and he'll have to prove that he has even an ounce of arm strength after yet another shoulder surgery.
Pennington is one of the league's most accurate quarterbacks, and if he is close to fully healthy, he can provide the Dolphins with a nice spark.
I'm betting on Chad this week, but be cautious if he doesn't look healthy.
Prediction: Miami 27, Tennessee 17.
Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5) Over New England Patriots
6 of 8
Pittsburgh Steelers (-4.5) Over New England Patriots
In a Super Bowl-caliber matchup, the Pats visit the Steelers for Sunday Night Football this week.
The Pats looked like the NFL's best team before getting steamrolled by the Browns, and the Steelers have looked good despite two close losses to New Orleans and Baltimore.
New England's defense has been suspect the whole year, and Big Ben Roethlisberger is more than capable of lighting up a secondary that gives up almost 270 yards per game.
Pats fans can talk up their "bend but don't break" defense all they want, but don't act like Bill Belichick wants other teams to put up 300 yards passing.
Prediction: Pittsburgh 31, New England 24.
Philadelphia Eagles (-3) Over Washington Redskins
7 of 8
Philadelphia Eagles (-3) Over Washington Redskins
The Redskins won the teams' first meeting 17-12, but don't look for that to happen again.
Michael Vick looked fully healthy in last week's triumph over the Colts, and the 'Skins are coming off a loss to Detroit and a poorly-handled quarterback situation.
Washington has a habit of hanging in games it doesn't belong in and may keep this close, but the Eagles are just a much, much better team than the Redskins.
Prediction: Philadelphia 30, Washington 17.
The Rest Of The Picks
8 of 8
Bengals (+7) over Colts
Lions (+3) over Bills
Panthers (+7) over Bucs
Chiefs (-1) over Broncos
Seahawks (+3) over Cardinals
Rams (+6) over 49ers
Last Week's Picks: 8-4
Season: 37-24
What do you think of my picks?
