Milwaukee Bucks Finally Starting To Show Some Offensive Explosiveness

Danny FlynnNov 10, 2010

After failing to score 100 points in regulation through their first seven games of the season, the Milwaukee Bucks have finally come alive, breaking the elusive 100-point barrier on consecutive nights. It started with Tuesday night’s 107-80 blowout win over the Knicks and carried over to tonight’s 108-91 victory in Atlanta.

The two commanding wins have helped the Bucks bounce back and get on track after a disappointing 2-5 start to the season.

Milwaukee possesses one of the most balanced offenses in the league, but they’ve often lacked a type of explosive element that would help them get over the hump when they need it the most. Coming into tonight’s game with the Hawks, the Bucks ranked 28th in the NBA, averaging just 91 points per game. The low point of the season came in a dismal 76 point showing at home in a loss to Portland to start off November.

Second year point guard Brandon Jennings, who recorded his first career triple double in the team’s first win of the season against Charlotte, currently leads the team with 14.9 points per game. Forward Andrew Bogut is right behind him, averaging 14.1 points per game.

Corey Maggette, John Salmons and Carlos Delfino have been doing their fair share of the work as well, all averaging double digits a game, but none of the three have exactly been go to offensive players.

It’s sad because the Bucks are shaping up to be one of the best defensive teams in the Eastern Conference. Milwaukee's giving up an average of just 91 points per game, which ranks near the top of the NBA, and they’ve shown a great ability to clamp down on the defensive end of the floor.

This Milwaukee team looks like they can grind it out with anybody, but if the Bucks want to take that next step and become more than just your average run of the mill playoff team, they’re going to need to come alive offensively and start putting up the types of efforts we’ve seen from them in the last two games on a more consistent basis.
