Manny Pacquiaos of the Golf World: 10 Golfers Who Could Make It in Boxing

Reid OvermanNov 9, 2010

The game of golf is a delicate sport. Anybody who has ever played the game knows that raw power rarely prevails. It does not matter how big you are, or how fast you swing the club, you have to know how to control yourself mentally. Boxing is a different story. Sure, there are techniques, and mindsets going into a fight, but we all know that the meanest and strongest always prevail. Here are the 10 golfers that I think could make in the world of boxing.

Rory Sabbatini

Height: 5'10''

Weight: 165 pounds

Rory is first on my list strictly due to his nickname--The Volcano. It might be the perfect way to describe Sabbatini's emotions. Rory is not fun to watch because he is always shooting low, it is actually quite the opposite--I find myself watching him just to watch him chuck his clubs 20 feet away towards his bags after he hits a bad shot. Although he is short, this man is packing a punch, and if anyone disagrees, you can take it up with him.

Vijay Singh

Height: 6'2''

Weight: 210 pounds

Standing at six feet, two inches tall, with a normally calm attitude, Vijay is a man that anyone would fear to be in a fight with. Although I would not guess that Vijay is light on his feet, he has a large wing span and if one of those fists of fury made contact with your face, you would be flat on your back before you would know it!

The man is from Fiji, what can his opponent do?

Paul Casey

Height: 5'10''

Weight: 180 pounds

There is something about Paul Casey that has always told me that he packed a punch. I feel that with his ability to make a glare that could scare the devil, Boxing may be very suitable for him. Casey would be the boxer that every opponent would look past. He's on the shorter side, he looks a little small, but when he would step in the ring, all hell would break lose. Paul is one of those guys that you do not want to make mad, and that is why he would make it in the world of boxing.

When you watch Jeff Overton play golf, you almost wonder if he is a boxer, who can play golf. He has his own style of play (to say the least), and when he is fired up, he acts like he is the incredible hulk. Also, Jeff may not seem the type to get in a boxing ring and last more than 30 seconds, but I have a gut feeling that when his excitement starts going, he can take on any boxer, at any time, and any place. One thing is for sure, I would never step into a ring with this guy.

K.J. Choi

K.J. Choi may be the scariest golfer in the game today. You never hear him talk, and he consistently has this glare in his eyes that makes him look like a mobster. Let's be honest, every one who has watched him play golf at some point has pictured him in those boxing shorts with just a death glare waiting to prey on his next victim. He is mysterious, and that is what makes him so intimidating. Sometimes I find it hard to look straight into his eyes through the television!

Brendon De Jonge

Height: 6'0''

Weight: 230 pounds

Brendon looks like the next heavyweight champion of the world. He is a nice guy on the course, but who is to say that he did not send a couple kids to the hospital back in high school? When you are six feet tall and weigh 230 pounds, does not matter where you get punched, your not going down. Who knows how hard Brendon can swing his arms, or how long he can last in the ring, but there is no way on this planet that de Jonge is getting knocked out!

Steve Marino

Height: 6'1''

Weight: 180 pounds

Steve Marino does not necessarily remind me of a boxer (let alone a golfer), but he does remind me of a character in the Russian Mob. The way he struts around the course with his heavy swagger and his facial expressions that say, "you better not mess with me," Marino looks like he could lay a heavy punch into just about any opponents jaw. Again, here is a classic example of a big guy, with an intimidating glare in his eyes, and if he ever stepped into the ring, he would be fearless, and that is why he would succeed in the world of boxing.

Kevin Stadler

Height: 5'10''

Weight: 250 pounds

Kevin Stadler is what most people would call a "big boy." Since most boxers are fit to the core and still weigh 250 pounds, Stadler would not seem to stand a chance. But, if you threw Stadler in the gym for three weeks straight and started fine tuning this body of a beast, he could step into the ring with just about anybody(for about a minute until his lack of stamina caught up with him). Either way, Stadler looks like the type of guy who could take a punch, and he definitely could deliver one!

Boo Weekley

Height: 6'0''

Weight: 210 pounds

This southern boy who only likes to eat homemade country-fried chicken would be a real threat inside the ring. Standing at six feet and weighing over 210 pounds, if you made Boo angry, he's gonna hunt you down. The one thing that makes Boo such a threat in the world of boxing is his hidden fire. He seems like a funny, outgoing, comedian type guy, but what people would find out is that he is always business, and if your the fighter in his way for more fried chicken, you'd be K.O. before you knew he hit you!

John Daly

Now, I would not say that John would necessarily win on the boxing tour, let alone even stand a chance, but the reason he could make a living off of it is because everyone--myself included-- would pay a lot of money to see John Daly go into a boxing ring to fight somebody. He would be the biggest money maker that boxing has ever seen. Whether it was fun for him or not, he would make tons of money, because so many people around the world would pay to see him go all out swinging at someone 100 times more fit, and 100 times more smart. Let's be honest, it would be awesome to see John go head to head with Mike Tyson.
