Start Em Sit Em: Fantasy Football Week 10: Start Michael Vick, Sit Kyle Orton
Well, I blew it. Last week's fantasy advice netted a ridiculous -29 points with advice like "Sit Arian Foster" and "Start Patrick Crayton". Foster put up a whopping 31 points in my ESPN league, probably a direct result of me doubting him.
But, if you'll give me another chance, I'll try to have a Brett Favre style comeback this week, only with slightly fewer inappropriate text messages and voicemails.
I've done my homework and feel more confident in this week's picks than I have about most weeks so far. Hopefully, I can rebound from my awful Week 9 and get my net points (currently at -2) back to the positive side.
So, here's my fantasy start 'em, sit 'em advice for Week 10.
QBs: Start Michael Vick
1 of 8
I LOVE Michael Vick's match-up this week. He's playing the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football.
The Redskins have been horrible at defending the pass this year, allowing more than 280 yards per game to opposing quarterbacks, the second worst total in the NFL. As long as Vick can avoid throwing interceptions to DeAngelo Hall, he should put up some huge numbers.
But, lest we forget, the thing that makes Vick special is his scrambling ability. The Redskins allow over 112 rushing yards per game, and they'll allow more than that this week, as Vick will scramble for somewhere around 60-70 yards.
QBs: Sit Kyle Orton
2 of 8
The Broncos passing game has been the lone bright spot so far in a 2-6 season. Brandon Lloyd and Kyle Orton have formed a very potent receiver-quarterback combo.
But, that combo won't fare well this weekend against the Kansas City Chiefs. Lloyd will be covered by Brandon Flowers, who is quietly becoming one of the best cornerbacks in the NFL.
That doesn't leave many other options for Orton. Plus, the Broncos have had no running game all year, so the Chiefs can sit back and just defend the pass.
Oh yeah, and the Chiefs will be playing angry after losing a tough road game in Oakland last week.
RBs: Start Jahvid Best
3 of 8
Jahvid Best had eight fantasy points last week, a decent performance considering he did it against the Jets' stout defense.
This week, he goes from facing one of the best run defenses to facing the absolute worst.
Expect Best to run all over the Buffalo Bills this weekend, as the Lions will have to lean on the running game more with QB Matthew Stafford out with a shoulder injury.
RBs: Sit Marion Barber and Felix Jones
4 of 8
Things are going to get worse in Dallas before they get better. The Cowboys fired Wade Phillips and promoted offensive coordinator Jason Garrett to head coach.
Have you seen this offense this year? Even when Tony Romo was healthy, the offense couldn't get the job done. And now Garrett is head coach? He should have been sent packing with Phillips.
Anyway, the point is this: No Dallas Cowboys running backs should be anywhere near your starting lineup this week.
WRs: Start Anquan Boldin
5 of 8
The Atlanta Falcons play an all-or-nothing style of pass defense. They have 13 interceptions on the year, but have allowed just as many touchdowns through the air.
Meanwhile, Joe Flacco is doing a great job of taking care of the football. He's only thrown six picks this year, and four of those came in a Week 2 loss to the Bengals. He's thrown zero interceptions in his last four games.
So, when the Ravens get to the red zone, look for Flacco to try to hookup with his new favorite receiver, Anquan Boldin. Boldin has the size and strength to go up and grab passes over the heads of the Falcons' defenders.
WRs: Sit Santonio Holmes
6 of 8
Santonio Holmes had a couple big catches in the fourth quarter of the Jets' narrow victory over the Detroit Lions last week.
He's becoming the big play threat Rex Ryan envisioned when he brought Holmes to New York.
But, this week, Holmes and the Jets are playing a tough Cleveland Browns team. Mark Sanchez has been struggling the past two games, and I expect the Browns defense to keep him in that slump, which will cause Holmes to be irrelevant this week.
TEs: Start Tony Moeaki
7 of 8
Tony Moeaki is becoming a favorite of Chiefs' QB Matt Cassel.
This week, they are playing a Denver Broncos team that doesn't have any linebackers who can stay with Moeaki.
Look for him to put up 60-70 yards and maybe a touchdown.
TEs: Sit Jermaine Gresham
8 of 8
Jermaine Gresham started out this season with some promising results, including two eight point games.
But, ever since the Bengals' bye week three weeks ago, Gresham has only posted four fantasy points.
I wouldn't trust him in your starting lineup this week against the Colts, but don't give up on him entirely. He has a favorable match-up against the Bills next week, so see how he performs then before you make a final decision on him.
