Week 10 Fantasy Football Running Backs: Who To Pick Up, Drop or Ignore

Patrick Scott PattersonNov 9, 2010

Shocking that we are already in Week 10 in the fantasy football season.

A lot of shake-ups, major injuries, trades, unexpected contenders and disappointing teams have made it a challenge to stay on top of the hottest fantasy football trends, so perhaps I can help.

Here are some running backs that might be on your fantasy football radar one way or another as we head into Week 10.

Pick-Ups

Peyton Hillis, Cleveland Browns

Not much chance you'll get this guy, only available in 7 percent of Yahoo! leagues this morning.

Those paying attention weren't totally shocked at his big game, as Hillis has been a workhorse all season. But in those leagues still out to lunch, this is likely your last chance.

Reggie Bush, New Orleans Saints

Early word is that Bush will likely be back following the bye week. Available in 43% of leagues now, he is worth picking up.

Any team giving a workload to Julius Jones will play a guy like Bush if he can go.

Ignore

LeGarrette Blount, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Bucs can't continue to waste touches on Cadillac Williams, who rushed for only 13 yards on Sunday. When Blount got them in the second half, he was able to move it.

It might have hurt those who started him this past Sunday, but it has to be clear now who the horse in the Tampa backfield really is.

If you got Blount during his waiver wire frenzy the past two weeks, stand pat. He'll pay off.

Clinton Portis, Washington Redskins

A lot of adds for Portis out there going into this week.

As of this writing, his status for playing is still very much up in the air, and he's never been super reliable for fantasy play anyway. Look elsewhere.

Drop/Trade Bait

Chris Ivory, New Orleans Saints

Ivory, one of the Saints cast-of-thousands running back roster, has injured his shoulder. As Bush looks to return, Ivory looks to be a non-factor going forward.

Marion Barber, Dallas Cowboys

If the Cowboys are serious about player changes to go with the coaching change, the ineffective Barber will likely lose time to Felix Jones and Tashard Choice.

Ryan Mathews, San Diego Chargers

Perhaps the fantasy bust of 2010, Mathews left again with an injury on Sunday.

He just can't seem to get healthy. In a pass-happy offense with two other effective running backs, it looks like it's time to accept Mathews as a wasted fantasy draft pick this year.
