Teddy Atlas Says Antonio Margarito Will Beat Manny Pacquiao
Cowboys Stadium will be rocking this Saturday night, and it won't be the NFL team that will do the entertaining. Instead, a fighter who's on a comeback, will take on the best pound-for-pound guy in the business.
It looks like Manny Pacquiao has this fight wrapped up. His trainer, Freddie Roach, thinks it will be a cakewalk for Pacquiao.
It looks like a fix to me, because they're both Top Rank boxers fighting each other, so the money stays in the organization.
Recently, promoter Bob Arum tipped his hat towards Margarito, who also got an endorsement from another well-known figure in the boxing arena.
Teddy Atlas, ESPN's boxing commentator, is leaning towards Margarito. He dismisses the early odds in Vegas that Pacquiao is a 6-to-1 favorite.
To Atlas, the odds mean nothing. He goes on what each boxer brings to the table.
According to Atlas, Pacquiao has the power, skill and the confidence. The seven-time champ in different weight classes is also a southpaw, and he can attack from the inside or fight on the outside.
Margarito, said Atlas, is hungrier with something to prove after getting busted in the hand-wrapping incident. He paid a heavy price for it with his suspension from boxing for more than a year. Atlas said Margarito has a heavy chin and is bigger, taller and stronger.
I guess Atlas wasn't convinced that Joshua Clottey didn't give Pacquiao a run for his money in their fight. Clottey was nothing more than a human punching bag for Pacquiao.
Miguel was damaged goods, Atlas said, after his fight with Juan Manuel Marquez, which made it easier for Pacquiao to control the action in his bout with Cotto. Ricky Hatton succumbed to the fast hands of Pac Man and was toast.
One thing that stands out that Atlas said was Margarito's ability to use the uppercut. One wrong head move by Pacquiao, and he'll feel the force of one of Margarito's uppercuts.
Atlas went on a limb to favor Margarito by a knockout. I think Pacquiao will win his eighth title in eight weight classes.
