Manny Pacquiao Video: Trainer Says Boxer Isn't Ready for Margarito Fight

Sam WestmorelandNov 8, 2010

The Manny Pacquiao video from CBS News' 60 Minutes has been causing serious waves in the boxing community. Not because of anything Pacman said; the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world is too media savvy to say anything that could get him in trouble.

Instead, it's the comments by trainer Freddy Roach, who claims Manny's not ready to fight Antonio Margarito on Saturday, that have caused quite a stir. Let's take a look at what was said, and how it could impact Saturday's fight.

What Was Said?

Here's the full Pacman interview on 60 Minutes. Roach's comments don't come until about the 3:30 mark of the video.

Do Roach's words have merit, or is this just a bit of gamesmanship to help hype the fight and get Manny motivated?

If he's bluffing and Pacquiao is in shape, then nothing comes of it. Even if he's not at 100 percent, Pacquiao is fully capable of taking down Margarito.

So why does it matter if Manny's not at peak fitness level, or isn't focused on the task at hand? Margarito is by far the bigger fighter, and is more capable of absorbing punishment and dealing it out. If Pacman's focus is off even the slightest, he could go down and go down hard. He has to be on his guard against a power hitter like Antonio, and if he's not, this fight could go against him.
