NFL Week 9 Fantasy Football Results: Top 10 Performers
Week 9 in the 2010 NFL season featured several blowouts, like the Cleveland Browns surprising the New England Patriots, the New York Giants demolishing the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers dismantling the hapless Dallas Cowboys.
And, when there are high scoring games, there are high scoring fantasy players. Fantasy studs like Aaron Rodgers and Adrian Peterson had big games, as expected. Arian Foster and Eli Manning posted big days too, but no real surprise there.
Then there were huge games from Peyton Hillis and Seyi Ajirotutu that nobody could see coming.
Here's a breakdown of the top 10 fantasy football performers from Week 9.
10. Matthew Stafford, QB, Detroit Lions
1 of 10
Matthew Stafford had to leave Sunday's game against the New York Jets with yet another injury to his right shoulder, but not before he posted some solid fantasy points.
Stafford threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns in the Lions' heartbreaking overtime loss to the Jets.
Keep an eye on his status for next week, but as long as he's starting, he should be in your starting lineup.
9. Seyi Ajirotutu, WR, San Diego Chargers
2 of 10
Seyi Ajirotutu has made the most of his chance in the NFL. When the San Diego receiving corps was paper thin, Ajirotutu stepped in and eased the blow of not having Antonio Gates, Vincent Jackson or Malcolm Floyd.
With stud QB Philip Rivers throwing to him, Ajirotutu caught four passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns in the Chargers' 29-23 victory over the Houston Texans.
Ajirotutu's value will drop considerably once Jackson and Floyd return, but for now, he's a decent option at WR.
8. Michael Vick, QB, Philadelphia Eagles
3 of 10
Michael Vick returned from his rib injury in a big way, leading the Philadelphia Eagles to a surprising upset of Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts.
Vick beat the Colts with both his arm and legs this week, throwing for 218 yards and a touchdown, and adding 74 yards and a touchdown rushing.
He's Andy Reid's starting QB, and he should be your starting QB too, as long as he's healthy.
7. David Akers, K, Philadelphia Eagles
4 of 10
I'm going to give a shout-out here to David Akers. Kickers normally don't get any fantasy love, but Akers has posted back-to-back 15 point games.
Plus, he's invaluable for his team, as his four field goal contribution against the Colts was huge in the Eagles' 26-24 victory.
Akers is about as solid a play as anybody when it comes to kickers.
6. Eli Manning, QB, New York Giants
5 of 10
Eli Manning posted his best fantasy day of the year on Sunday. He threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns in the Giants' 41-7 thrashing of the Seattle Seahawks.
Most importantly, he didn't throw any interceptions, something he's prone to doing. During his last game against the Dallas Cowboys, he threw for more yards and touchdowns than he did this Sunday, but he also threw three picks, hurting his fantasy score.
But, with the best young receiving corps in the NFL, Manning is a safe bet to be your starting QB for the rest of 2010.
5. Adrian Peterson, RB, Minnesota Vikings
6 of 10
Adrian Peterson posted another 20+ point fantasy day. Boring. We know he's a great runner.
Well, this week, Peterson had a very pedestrian 81 yards and a touchdown on the ground. But, he made up for it in the passing game, catching four passes for 63 yards and his first receiving touchdown of the year.
I don't even need to do a fantasy projection here. If you aren't starting Adrian Peterson every week, you shouldn't be playing fantasy football.
4. Green Bay Packers D/ST
7 of 10
The Packers' defense came up huge against a confused and weary Dallas Cowboy offense. In addition to allowing only seven points, the Packers forced four turnovers, two fumbles and two interceptions.
Clay Mathews had an interception return for a touchdown and Nick Collins returned one of the fumbles for a touchdown as well.
The Packers won't put up this many points every week, so play them on a week-to-week basis based on their opponent.
3. Aaron Rodgers, QB, Green Bay Packers
8 of 10
These are the types of games most of us expected Aaron Rodgers to post every week. He threw for 289 yards and three touchdowns in the Packers' 45-7 victory over the Dallas Cowboys.
Rodgers has been throwing more interceptions than we are used to seeing from him this year, and it's affected his fantasy value. But, this was his second straight no interception game, so maybe he's getting back in the swing of things.
After his bye week this week, Aaron Rodgers should be your starting QB, period.
2. Peyton Hillis, RB, Cleveland Browns
9 of 10
If I told you someone named Peyton had a huge fantasy day, you'd think I was stupid and say, "Of course Peyton Manning had a huge fantasy day."
Well, this week, Manning was outperformed by the other Peyton—Peyton Hillis of the Cleveland Browns. Hillis had a whopping 184 rushing yards and two touchdowns as the Browns shocked the Patriots, 34-14.
Hillis is turning into a must-start RB, as he's only had one sub-10 point game all year.
1. Arian Foster, RB, Houston Texans
10 of 10
As good of a day as Arian Foster had, he could have had another touchdown. He had a touchdown catch revoked due to the "Calvin Johnson rule" of maintaining possession after hitting the ground.
But that's beside the point. The point is, Foster ran for 127 yards and two touchdowns, although it wasn't enough as the Texans lost to the Chargers, 29-23.
I wasn't a firm believer in Foster before this week, but this is his third straight 20+ point fantasy day, and he did it against the best run defense in the league. I'm a believer now.
