Cowboys-Packers: Cowboys Upset the Packers in NFL's Biggest Week 9 Upset

James BrownNov 5, 2010

This week on Sunday Night Football the Green Bay Packers will host the disgruntled Dallas Cowboys.

The latest NFL sports betting odds as posted by BetPhoenix have the Green Bay Packers listed as eight-point favorites in this contest.

The Cowboys have been a train wreck all season and are easily one of the most disappointing teams in the league.

They have only managed one win on the season, and after losing quarterback Tony Romo for the season with a broken clavicle, things managed to get worse. Last week the Cowboys were accused of giving up as they were abused by the Jacksonville Jaguars on their home turf.

The Cowboys are off to their worst start since 1989, and things look bleak for a proud organization. The oddsmakers seemed to have lost faith in the Cowboys, as they set a rather big line, but the Cowboys could actually pull off the upset. Here are a few reasons why.

The Packers are suffering from injuries, and although they have had injuries all year long, the offensive line is hurting. Green Bay has 10 players on injured reserve, and seven starters were on last week's injury report.

The Packers’ starting left guard Daryn Colledge had his back lock up on him at practice Wednesday and didn’t practice Thursday, and if he does suit up and play he will not be at 100 percent. Right tackle Mark Tauscher was limited again Thursday, and it appears he won’t be ready to return for this game. The line is the key to this offense, and with the injuries piling up it will be harder for them to put points on the board.

On offense the Cowboys rank fourth in the NFL, and although those numbers were built around Romo at the helm, they have found a spark this week in running back Tashard Choice. The running game has struggled to get in the end zone, and coach Wade Phillips is going to give Choice more opportunities this week.

This has the young back very excited. "I'm going to roll," Choice predicted. "It's going to be an opportunity where I have a chance to be a future guy and I've got to get those carries and be a part of the game big-time. And I know that."

The Cowboys are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games following a double-digit loss at home and 13-4 ATS in their last 17 games in November. The Cowboys defense responds after getting beat up on the field; they are an amazing 20-8 ATS in the next game after allowing 35 points or more, which brings up another point.

The loss to Jacksonville is easily the worst one of the year for the Cowboys. Everyone in the media and in the league has written this team off for this season. They have been called quitters and told they have no chance to do anything this season. That is exactly the type of motivation this team needs heading into a game against the Packers. The Cowboys respond and pull off the biggest upset in the NFL in Week 9.
