NBA Rumors: Kevin Garnett Calls Charlie Villanueva a 'Cancer Patient'

Bob BajekNov 3, 2010

Kevin Garnett did well against the Detroit Pistons last night, scoring 22 points and grabbing six rebounds in a 109-86 Boston Celtics victory.

However, KG allegedly did something we shouldn't be proud of.

Known for his trash talking throughout his career, Garnett allegedly called Detroit Pistons big man Charlie Villanueva a "cancer patient."

Villanueva then Tweeted about Garnett's politically incorrect trash talk on his account.

"KG called me a cancer patient, I'm pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he's tossing it like it's a joke," Villanueva tweeted. "I wouldn't even trip about that, but a cancer patient, I know way 2 many people who passed away from it, and I have a special place 4 those."

Villanueva suffers from alopecia universalis, a medical condition that results in hair loss, resulting in the Pistons forward not having hair on his head. He was wondering if Garnett would want to fight.

Trash talking is a part of the game, but apparently this wasn't from the "Yo Mama" variety.

Garnett should know better. He hasn't just offended Villanueva. He has insulted and made light of cancer patients and survivors from around the nation and world.

Some of these patients and survivors could be Celtics and Garnett fans, but will be looking for an apology from the NBA star.

According to the Centers for Disease Control, cancer is the second-leading cause of death in America as of 2007. Sadly, 562,875 people lost their lives to the disease that year.

The CDC also finds that over eight percent of adults have been diagnosed with cancer at one time.

NBA Commissioner David Stern should fine and suspend Garnett for these insensitive and hurtful comments.

Kevin, you crossed the line and now you have to man up for your atrocious, insensitive mistake.
