BCS Week 9 Report: Roadblock Saturday Ends Michigan State's Perfect Season
It was over by halftime as Iowa took Sparty to the woodshed. Kirk Cousins played his worst game of the season as the overachieving Spartans suffered a big loss on what was deemed Roadblock Saturday.
With their coach Mark Dantonio still recovering from a heart attack, Michigan State is still an inspirational team. The game at Iowa also marked the return of Chris L. Rucker from a suspension for driving under the influence. As this was a violation of his probation from an altercation last year, Rucker spent time in jail after his arrest.
Coach Dantonio sees something of value in Rucker and it is now time for him to start making better choices.
The top of the Big Ten is a real mess now, with four teams having one loss. Wisconsin beat Ohio State and Iowa. Michigan State beat Wisconsin. Iowa thumped Michigan State and still has to play Ohio State.
The Big Ten winner this year will have earned their trip to the Rose Bowl.
The other school that was roadblocked on Saturday was the Missouri Tigers. After their epic win over Oklahoma, the Tigers could not get past the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
The other schools were able to pass their roadblocks on Saturday.
Auburn and Heisman favorite Cam Newton ran all over Ole Miss. Oregon and their Heisman hopeful LaMichael James pulled away from USC in the fourth quarter. TCU easily handled UNLV. Utah snuck by a tough Air Force squad. Alabama took care of Tennessee.
Even with their win in Ole Miss, Auburn still lost the top spot in the BCS to Oregon. What a goofy system.
As the season winds down, things are coming into focus.
Oregon and Auburn look to have control over their own destinies. It is hard to see TCU overtaking them if all three schools win out. Auburn seems the safest because if they win out, then that means they will have beaten Alabama. A TCU win over Utah might be enough to jump over Oregon as their remaining schedule is tough, but does not include and top ten BCS team.
Boise State needs losses by Oregon and Auburn to get into one of the top two spots. That is not a guarantee though, as Alabama can win out and find themselves in the number two spot ahead of an undefeated Boise State.
Can you imagine how great a four team playoff would be this year? We would more than likely get two non-BCS schools into the top four with Boise State and the winner of the TCU/Utah game. The winner of the Auburn/Alabama game might be in there and Oregon would be there.
Oh well, enough time in fantasy land.

One Last Thought...
Tragedy shook the college football world when 20 year old Notre Dame junior Declan Sullivan was killed in a scissor-lift accident.
Whenever someone so young passes away, it is heartbreaking to have to celebrate their life. Declan had accomplished so much in his young life, yet there was so much more he was destined to do. Those that loved him will feel that sorrow forever, as they will not see his dreams come true.
Shame on Notre Dame for playing a meaningless game against Tulsa.
And shame on coach Brian Kelly for putting Declan in a position of mortal danger.
