UFC Ultimate Brazil Could Come Back In November 2011

Dale De SouzaNov 2, 2010

In the early days of the UFC, the company would host a few "in the middle" events in between some of the chronologically ordered events of the UFC's past.

There were two "Ultimate Ultimate" tournaments—one between UFCs 7 and 8 and anther between UFCs 11 and 12—along with an Ultimate Japan event in 1997 and an Ultimate Brazil event in 1998.

The Ultimate Brazil event was best remembered for a Light Heavyweight (then-Middleweight) title bout featuring Frank Shamrock and John Lober, as well as Pat Miletich facing Mikey Burnett for the UFC Welterweight (then-Lightweight) Championship, as well as arguably the most famous victory in Vitor Belfort's career against Wanderlei Silva.

For 13 years, Brazil has been just a one-time-only host of a previous UFC event, but come November, 2011, all that could change.

GRACIEMAG International reports via their official website that for the first time since 1998 the UFC will take center stage in Brazil.

The return to Brazil won't be in Sao Paulo at the Portuguesa Gymnasium this time around, though.

The reports are that the event will take place at the HSBC Arena in the borough of Barra da Tijuca inside of Rio de Janeiro.

With news of the recent WEC-UFC Merger, and subsequently, the acquisition of Bantamweight sensation Wagnney Fabiano and pound-for-pound king Jose Aldo to go along with their current Brazilian talent pool, who knows what the UFC might accomplish as they make their way back to Brazil?

That's what's so great about the sport: You never do know, but once you see it for yourself, you end up remembering why you love the sport so damn much.
