Fantasy Football Week 9 Rankings: Quarterbacks

Bruno Boys Fantasy FootballNov 2, 2010

We are now entering the home stretch of the fantasy football season and the playoffs are on the horizon. Another great thing is that the bye weeks are almost over, with just this week and next week to go.

The one bad thing, though, is that this week is another week where six teams are on bye, and that’s going to limit your options.

Some of the biggest news at the quarterback position is the return of Michael Vick as the starter for the Philadelphia Eagles. Vick, who has been nursing injured ribs, returned to practice and has declared himself fully healthy.

A matchup with the Indianapolis Colts awaits, and only then will we see if Vick is indeed fully healthy.

Check out our Fantasy Football Week 9 Quarterback Rankings to find out where your signal caller ranks.

1. Philip Rivers (San Diego Chargers) @ Houston

There isn’t a better matchup this week than San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers playing against the Houston Texans.

Rivers was back to his old ways in last week’s win over the Tennessee Titans, throwing for 305 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. It was his sixth multiple-touchdown game of the season, and he is set for his seventh this weekend against the Texans.

The Texans have already given up 16 passing touchdowns this year and statistically are the worst defense against opposing quarterbacks.

What else do you need to know? Keep Rivers plugged into your lineup for another great game.

Point Projection: 22 points

2. Peyton Manning (Indianapolis Colts) @ Philadelphia

It would appear that the Philadelphia Eagles have the edge in their matchup this week with the Indianapolis Colts. Philadelphia is coming off a bye, whereas the Colts played on Monday and have a short week to get ready for the Eagles.

Yet, you should still expect a good game from Indianapolis quarterback Peyton Manning. Not many players handle adversity as well as Manning does, and playing at Philadelphia against an aggressive defense is just the type of situation in which he thrives.

Point Projection:  20 points

3. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers) vs. Dallas

When this game appeared on the schedule, many saw it as a marquee matchup. Two of the most decorated, historic and proud franchises in league history—the Dallas Cowboys and the Green Bay Packers—battling it out at Lambeau Field.

However, Dallas is limping into this game with just one win on the season. This presents a great opportunity for Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers to get back on track. He and the receivers have been a bit off at times this year, but Dallas has already given up 15 passing touchdowns this year.

If it’s not a monster game from Rodgers, it’s at least going to be a good one. Despite his recent slide in production (just four passing touchdowns over the last four games), start him with confidence.

Point Projection: 19 points
