Strikeforce Challengers' Next Female Bout: Jan Finney Vs. Liz Carmouche
Strikeforce Challengers 12 will include a women's 135-pound bout on November 19th in Jackson, Mississippi. Heavy hitter Jan "Cuddles" Finney will be facing Liz "Girl-rilla" Carmouche.
Finney may not have looked so hot in her last fight against featherweight champion Cristiane "Cyborg" Santos (10-1) at Strikeforce: Fedor vs. Werdum, but let's remember that the bantamweight was fighting outside of her natural weight class of 135.
In fact, Finney was plucked out of a 135-pound tournament at Freestyle Cage Fighting for the title shot. Although she lost due to strikes in the second round, Finney showed a lot of heart and that she will keep moving forward despite all odds. She also holds notable wins over Adrienna "AJ" Jenkins and Ginele Marquez.
Liz Carmouche is undefeated with a record of 4-0. She fought as an alternate for Strikeforce's 135-pound tournament, defeating Colleen Schneider by decision. Her most recent fight was outside of Strikeforce, where she defeated Valentina Shevchenko by second-round TKO.
In a lightweight bout just added to the card, Caros "the Future" Fodor will be fighting Minnesota's Derek "the Pretzel" Getzel. Getzel won the Strikeforce contract after defeating John Case by first-round TKO in Minneapolis this past February.
Fodor is coming off of a unanimous decision win against Thomas Diagne at a Strikeforce Challengers card last July.
The main event includes a lightweight bout between Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro (20-4) and Justin "Silverback" Wilcox (9-3). Ribeiro is a BJJ black belt who can make the most formidable opponent look like a grappling dummy. He has competed in ADCC and won the CBJJ Mundials four times. Wilcox fights out of the world-renowned American Kickboxing Academy. Seven of his nine wins have come by decision.
Lastly, Ovince St. Preux will be fighting Antwain "Juggernaut" Britt in a light heavyweight match.
