Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cash the Check Raheem Morris' Mouth Wrote

Tom EdringtonNov 1, 2010

This time last week, Raheem Morris was letting his mouth write some big checks.

This past Sunday, his young players cashed them for him.

Best team in the NFC? Well, the Buccaneers were the best team standing after 60 tough minutes in Arizona. Just when it looked like a blowout in the making, it wasn't. Then just when it looked like this young team might blow it, it didn't.

Looking back at this latest amazing Buccaneer victory, it was so very evident that a lot of players had a major part in the very nervous 38-35 victory over the Cardinals.

"Cool Hand" Josh Freeman

Is there anybody out there who is NOT impressed with the big guy? The kid is now 8-8 after 16 starts in the league and you can see his confidence growing. He really knows how to take care of the football.

He's thrown 132 passes without one falling into enemy hands and that is incredible. He's so very cool in the pocket, he's seeing the field and he's shown remarkable touch on every type of pass. You can sense that the team believes in him and he's already become the leader of the offense.

It has become very evident that Mark Dominik and Morris hit a home run with the young guy from K-State. And now he might be getting some help.

Mike Williams

Anyone out there not convinced that he's the real deal? Yes, he dropped a couple on Sunday. That's part of the growing process, the learning curve, if you will. He's the go-to guy. No doubt about that.

Blount-Force-Trauma

Let it be known that we're making this the official new nickname of LeGarrette Blount. Anyone not convinced this guy is the beast the Bucs need desperately? How's about 120 yard in 22 carries. It would take Cadillac 60 carries to get 120 yards.

How about that gem of a 48-yarder that help seal the deal? This guy runs with anger and bad-intent. He's also got something to prove and that's even better. You know he has a nasty side (see Boise State sucker punch).

That misjudgement by Blount at Oregon may have been one of the best things that's happened for this franchise. Is he the answer? He was on Sunday.

James Lee and the makeshift offensive line

James Lee had himself a great outing Sunday as did the rest of the offensive line that appears to be better off without Jeff Faine and Jeremy Trueblood. These guys got the job done, perhaps their best outing of the year.

Arrelious Benn

For those without patience, you had to like the huge, diving catch he made to help save the day. He's getting there. The best is yet to come.

Aqib Talib

Isn't it great to see this guy decide to settle down and just play some football?  Keep him off the streets and out of night clubs and taxi cabs and he could be well on his way to stardom.

Geno Hayes

Now we're beginning to understand what Morris saw in this former FSU player. He keeps improving, which seems to be the theme of this defense.

Help Me Ronde (Barber)

He's still getting it done after all this years and 174 consecutive starts. He's helping set the tone for the younger players.

Give that entire defense credit for the win. Two touchdowns forced Max Hall from the game. If Arizona had kept him in, it might have been 59-14. The kids looked like James Shields getting pounded at Tropicana Field. Derek Anderson had limited success.

Arizona can spend the day complaining that it blew this one.

But once again, Freeman, Cool Hand Josh, led yet another fourth-quarter comeback. That makes six of them.

So sit back and enjoy this one for a day or two.

Who knows what Morris will come up with this week.

But it gets real testy this coming Sunday.

Tampa Bay at Atlanta for the NFC South lead.

Doesn't that sound nice?
