An intriguing encounter between the Red Devils and Spurs saw hosts United grabbing three points to keep pace with Arsenal and Chelsea at the top of the Premier League. Nemanja Vidic 's first-half header put the Old Trafford outfit in pole position before a controversial, late Nani goal ensured victory.

Also in the English Premier League, Chelsea came back from a goal down to beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 away and Arsenal left it to late to overcome a determined West Ham United side 1-0 thanks to an Alexandre Song header.

AC Milan 1 - 2 Juventus Torino: San Siro, Milan

Hosts Milan could have propelled up to the top of the league with a win but Juventus had other plans, scoring through Fabio Quagliarella and Alessandro Del Piero to stun spectators at the San Siro. Former Juventus striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic clawed one back for Milan with a header eight minutes from time but despite several attempts on goal to follow, the visitors kept their nerve to grab three points.

Also in the Italian Serie A, AS Roma defeated Lecce 2-0 in a match which both sides ended with 10 men , with both Francesco Totti and Ruben Olivera sent off.

FC Barcelona 5 - 0 Sevilla FC : Camp Nou, Barcelona

Yet another masterclass by Argentina superstar Lionel Messi saw Barcelona cruise to an emphatic victory over high-flying Sevilla. The diminutive ace scored the opening goal and sent in David Villa for the second to ensure Sevilla were in trouble even before French defender Abdoulay Konko was sent off for receiving a second yellow card. There was more of the same in the second-half as Barcelona hit their visitors three more times, with Dani Alves grabbing his side's third before Messi and Villa completed braces.

Also in Spanish La Liga, Real Madrid overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat Hercules Alicante 3-1, with Cristiano Ronaldo netting a late brace to continue his amazing form.

PSV 0 - 1 Twente: Philips Stadion, Eindhoven

Fresh from destroying Feyenoord Rotterdam by a dream ten goals, PSV hosted Twente for a clash between the first and second placed teams in the Eredivisie. The Enschede side broke the deadlock through Nacer Chadli 's rasping effort on the hour mark and kept their composure at the back to secure the brilliant result.

Also in the Dutch Eredivisie, VVV went down 5-3 to travelling Groningen and Ajax waltzed to a 4-1 thrashing of home side Heracles Almelo.
