Manny Pacquiao Needs Solid Training Camp to Batter Scumbag Antonio Margarito

Colin LinneweberOct 30, 2010

Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao's trainer, Freddie Roach, said this week that his iconic prizefighter is having the worst training camp of his career in preparation for his bout vs. Antonio “Tijuana Tornado” Margarito for the vacant WBC super welterweight title Nov. 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.

Roach contends Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs) is lagging because of the hectic lifestyle he has lived since he was elected to the House of Representatives in the 15th Congress of the Philippines last May.

"He has a foot problem, and that's because he wears dress shoes too much,” said Roach, a native of Dedham who has been voted Trainer of the Year by the Boxing Writers Association of America on four occasions.

"I know his mind is off the fight. I know his mind is somewhere else, and that's because of politics. If there are no more challenges out there after this fight, this could be it.

"If Floyd (Mayweather Jr.) doesn't come to the table, I don't know what's going to challenge him. He loves his other job, and he might be done with this one."

It is concerning that Pacquiao is apparently lacking concentration and struggling because “Pac-Man” is the ideal person to hand Margarito (38-6, 27 KOs) the gory ring justice he so badly deserves.

Margarito, who in May defeated Robert Garcia by unanimous decision in Aguascalientes, Mexico, had his boxing license justifiably revoked by the CSAC in February 2009 after he was snagged preparing to battle former WBA welterweight super champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley with a plaster-like substance inside his hand wraps.

Fortunately, Margarito was caught when officials at the Los Angeles Staples Center proved the devious Mexican was a cowardly charlatan before the match began and he had the opportunity to seriously injure Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) with his cement fists.

Once Margarito had his illegal hand wraps removed, the “Tijuana Tornado” was promptly brutalized by Mosley and defeated by a ninth-round TKO.

“All these people that say things about me don’t know me, don’t know my history,” claimed Margarito, 32, like the clown-pocket he absolutely is. “The way I box has always been clean. Nobody has a clear idea what happened that night.”

After the “Tijuana Tornado” was rebuffed by Nevada and California, Margarito ultimately received his license in Texas to scrap Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs).

Margarito is the quintessential tough and rugged pugilist in the ring.

Nevertheless, his thwarted actions vs. Mosley are a cardinal sin in boxing and they should never be forgiven under any circumstances.

The “Tijuana Tornado” has sworn that he had no clue that his terminated trainer, Javier Capetillo, used forbidden substances in his wraps.

Margarito’s assertions are pathetic and he does not deserve to be exonerated strictly because he is an ignoramus.

“Boxing is considered a crazy and animalistic sport,” said Mike Cappiello, a native of Brockton who once battled for the IBO super featherweight title and retired with an impressive mark of 33-6. “Margarito’s actions further hurt the outlook of boxing.”

Cappiello, the owner of Cappiello Brothers Boxing gym in “The City of Champions,” continued.

“You need to keep boxing as safe as possible and make sure nothing serious happens to boxers. Margarito should have been suspended for more than a year to make a statement.”

Margarito is beloved by Mexican fight fans primarily for his brawling style and he was a popular attraction throughout much of the United States.

Still, Margarito does not deserve a chance at redemption in any of our 50 states and he should be permanently banned from prizefighting.

For the sport of boxing, losing Margarito would be a classic case of addition by subtraction.

Sadly, since boxing and Mexico are both rogue, Margarito managed to weasel his way back into the squared circle this past spring.

For proper retribution, a fighter is badly needed to viciously bludgeon Margarito in a clean and succinct fashion.

Hopefully, Manny Pacquiao will regain his focus and be the man to do that in two weeks.
